Job Description

Friedman Williams is working with an established New York City law firm seeking a Commercial Litigation Associate with approximately 4–6 years of experience to join its litigation practice. This opportunity offers exposure to sophisticated commercial disputes, direct client interaction, and meaningful responsibility across all phases of litigation within a collaborative, partner-driven environment.

The firm's commercial litigation practice represents a diverse client base, including multinational corporations, privately held businesses, emerging companies, and high-net-worth individuals. The practice handles a broad range of complex business disputes, including contract litigation, business torts, partnership and shareholder disputes, and real estate-related commercial litigation.

The incoming associate will work closely with experienced litigation partners while taking on increasing responsibility for case strategy, day-to-day case management, and substantive litigation assignments.

Responsibilities:

  • Handle a broad range of commercial litigation matters in state and federal courts.

  • Draft pleadings, substantive motions, discovery motions, and other litigation documents.

  • Manage written discovery, document production, and eDiscovery processes.

  • Prepare for and conduct depositions, court appearances, and other litigation proceedings.

  • Assist with developing case strategy, evaluating claims and defenses, and preparing matters for trial.

  • Communicate directly with clients and coordinate with partners and other members of the litigation team.

Qualifications:

  • Approximately 4–6 years of commercial litigation experience, with flexibility for candidates outside this range.

  • Experience handling complex business disputes within a law firm environment.

  • Strong legal research, analytical, writing, and oral advocacy skills.

  • Substantive experience with motion practice, discovery, and depositions.

  • Ability to manage multiple litigation assignments and exercise independent judgment.

  • New York Bar admission required.

Compensation & Additional Details:

  • Base salary of approximately $160,000–$180,000+, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

  • Annual discretionary bonus based on overall performance.

  • Hybrid schedule with four days in the office (Monday–Thursday) and remote work on Fridays.

  • Approximately 1,700–1,800+ annual billable hours.

  • Opportunity to work directly with experienced partners on sophisticated commercial disputes while assuming meaningful responsibility and developing long-term client relationships.
