Responsible for designing and developing construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems (4kV–138kV). This role primarily supports programmatic utility work, including overloaded transformers, inspections and maintenance, joint use projects, and inspection reports. The Designer ensures all deliverables meet quality, safety, scope, schedule, and budget requirements in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
Design and develop construction work packages for overhead and underground electrical distribution systems
Support programmatic work such as transformer upgrades, inspection and maintenance, joint use, and inspection reports
Maintain compliance with quality control standards and safe work practices
Ensure projects align with defined scope, schedule, and budget
Collaborate with clients and project teams to support successful project delivery
Prioritize multiple projects and deadlines daily
Develop construction maps for city and state permitting applications
Assist with civil and electrical design packages, including complex cable and conduit systems in dense urban environments
Work with minimal guidance from staff engineers to design:
Finished grade surfaces
Roadway corridor geometry
Utility pipe networks
CAD features required for hardcopy and digital improvement plan submittals
High school diploma plus 2–4 years of relevant experience in electric utility distribution design and/or construction projects
Experience with distribution design projects, including:
Medium-voltage switchgear
Voltage conversion projects
Distribution automation
Experience with Smallworld, CitectSCADA, AutoCAD, PLS-CADD, and MicroStation (preferred)
Comfortable using Google Earth, GIS, or other mapping applications
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Proven ability to communicate effectively with clients and project teams
Highly organized with strong time-management and prioritization skills
Ability to work independently while adapting to a rapidly changing environment
