Job Description

  • Receive detailed lists of Bill of Materials (BOM) from Customer’s Design and/or Engineering personnel
  • Ability to analyze BOM’s to determine thoroughness of the list and be able to identify items that might be missing or quantities that might be inconsistent with the design. Work directly with the design and/or engineering personnel to ensure the overall integrity of the design.
  • Generate material purchase orders for the items contained in the BOM from approved Customer vendors.
  • Ensuring materials meet Customer material and construction specifications and standards, quality standards, and are cost-efficient.
  • Ensuring the consistent and adequate supply of materials necessary for jobs, including being responsive to construction crews when an unexpected material need arises.
  • Ensure that materials are staged at the job site and/or in (semi-trailer) delivery vehicles in the manner in which those materials will be utilized to ensure efficiency of the construction process. Work directly with Customer vendors as necessary to ensure proper loading.
  • Coordinating with other departments regarding production goals, timelines, supplier payments, etc.
  • Tracking production volume and monitoring customer demand patterns and purchasing trends.
  • Scheduling and overseeing the supply and delivery of materials to specific job sites and locations. In some cases as needed, determine the optimum storage location to ensure construction crews efficiency effectiveness and material security.
  • Managing inventory issues, schedule changes, and cancellations.
  • Effectively managing (leftover) material that is not used by the construction crews. Coordinate return of material to the original vendor and/or Customer material warehouse, if necessary, or the ability to use such material on other jobs.
  • Providing appropriate and accurate (project close-out) documentation (actual material used) to the designated design and/or engineering personnel as required by the Customer.
  • Preparing cost estimates and performance reports, as requested.

Material Planner Requirements:

  • High school diploma/GED required.
  • Degree in business, logistics, inventory management, or a related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in material and logistics planning, inventory management, purchasing, or a related position.
  • Electrical construction background would be a plus.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written with design, engineering and construction personnel.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and material management systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must understand the Utility’s materials of construction as well as construction and material standards
  • Must understand the Customer’s material ordering process as well as the Customers material suppliers from whom material will be procured.
  • Ability to manage multiple project BOMs and/or job-site semi-trailers
