Settlement Accounting Specialist

Position Summary
The Settlement Accounting Specialist manages settlement funds held in trust, ensuring accurate recording, compliance, and timely distribution of client, vendor, co-counsel, and firm payments. This role works closely with attorneys, the settlement team, and financial institutions to support settlement operations and safeguard client funds.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain settlement funding reports and trust accounting records
  • Record incoming settlement proceeds and allocate funds to client matters in the Accounting System
  • Prepare and revise settlement statements for attorney review and client approval
  • Review settlement documents for completeness and compliance
  • Create and reconcile distribution lists to funds held in trust
  • Coordinate approvals for distributions
  • Verify client payment instructions
  • Document and reconcile outgoing trust transactions
  • Process firm fee transfers from trust to operating accounts

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of law firm, trust, or settlement accounting experience
  • •Working knowledge of trust/IOLTA accounting rules•
  • Experience with ProLaw or similar legal accounting systems preferred
  • •Strong attention to detail and reconciliation skills

  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
