Our client, a prestigious Law Firm, is looking for a Controller. The Controller will work closely with the CFO to manage the firm’s accounting, financial reporting, and operational finance functions, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency. This role requires both strategic oversight and hands‑on execution, with a focus on continuous process improvement to scale our financial operations to meet evolving business needs.
You will lead and develop the Accounting team, oversee billing and collections processes, manage payroll and compliance, and serve as a trusted advisor to firm leadership.
Leadership & Team Development
Supervise, mentor, and develop the Accounting department, including billing/collections staff.
Foster a collaborative, solutions‑oriented team environment with a focus on professional growth.
Accounting Operations
Oversee general ledger, month‑end and year‑end close, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
Manage IOLTA client trust accounts and ensure compliance with legal and ethical requirements.
Supervise accounts payable, cash application, payroll, and related compliance.
Prepare and review monthly financial statements, budgets, KPIs, and management reports.
Billing & Collections
Oversee billing operations and lead collections initiatives in coordination with the Collections Committee.
Ensure accuracy and timeliness of client invoicing and reconciliation.
Financial Compliance & Reporting
Partner with the CFO and external CPA firm on tax returns, year‑end reporting, and audits.
Manage retirement plan administration, workers’ compensation audits, and annual reporting requirements.
Process Improvement & Technology
Evaluate and implement financial systems, dashboards, and reporting tools.
Lead or participate in software implementation projects and process optimization initiatives.
7–10 years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years in a supervisory role.
Law firm accounting experience preferred (minimum 2–3 years strongly desired).
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; solid skills in Word and PowerPoint.
Experience with Aderant and ADP strongly preferred; knowledge of SSRS and financial dashboards a plus.
Strong understanding of legal trust accounting and compliance requirements.
Exceptional attention to detail, analytical skills, and problem‑solving abilities.
Proven project management experience, including system implementations.
