Job Description

ProspectBlue is seeking an experienced Managing Criminal Defense Paralegal to play a key leadership role in supporting the criminal defense practice at a reputable firm in Washington, DC. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on litigation experience, excellent organizational and communication skills, and a proven ability to manage and lead paralegal and support staff.

This position is ideal for a seasoned criminal defense paralegal who is ready to take on greater responsibility while remaining actively involved in complex litigation, discovery, court filings, and trial preparation.

Key Responsibilities
Manage, supervise, and mentor paralegals and legal support staff.
Oversee day-to-day paralegal operations and ensure assignments and deadlines are effectively managed.
Support attorneys throughout all stages of criminal litigation, from case intake and investigation through trial and post-trial proceedings.
Manage and organize large volumes of discovery and case materials.
Prepare and coordinate court filings, pleadings, motions, exhibits, and other legal documents.
Assist with trial preparation, including exhibit organization, witness materials, trial binders, and other trial-related needs.
Track case deadlines, court dates, filings, and other critical matters.
Coordinate with attorneys, investigators, experts, clients, courts, and other parties as needed.
Maintain accurate and organized electronic and physical case files.
Identify workflow improvements and help establish efficient processes for the paralegal and support team.
Provide hands-on paralegal support as needed in a fast-paced criminal defense practice.
Qualifications
3+ years of criminal defense paralegal experience required.
DC and/or Federal criminal defense experience strongly preferred.
Prior experience managing, supervising, or leading paralegals and/or legal support staff.
Strong experience with criminal litigation, discovery, court filings, and trial preparation.
Excellent organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple cases, competing deadlines, and shifting priorities.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently while also effectively leading and collaborating with a team.
Professional judgment, discretion, and the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
Proficiency with legal technology and electronic case-management systems.

A DC-based, in-office or hybrid schedule is strongly preferred. Exceptional remote candidates may be considered, provided they are able to travel to Washington, DC periodically as needed.
