LRS Consulting Services is seeking a COBOL Developer for a remote, part-time opportunity supporting a federal government client. This role is ideal for an experienced mainframe professional who enjoys maintaining stable environments, troubleshooting production issues, and supporting critical business processes. This position is focused on sustaining an existing COBOL environment rather than modernization or new development initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and support an existing COBOL application environment supporting a federal client.
- Monitor scheduled financial batch jobs and assist with troubleshooting and issue resolution.
- Analyze, diagnose, and resolve production issues within the existing mainframe ecosystem.
- Work collaboratively with another part-time COBOL developer and client stakeholders to ensure ongoing system stability and support.
- Perform maintenance and support activities for legacy applications and supporting technologies.
- Participate in after-hours monitoring and support activities as needed, particularly around financial processing schedules and month-end activities.
- Document issues, resolutions, and support activities in accordance with client requirements.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of COBOL development and support experience.
- Active Secret Security Clearance, subject to verification prior to interview consideration.
- Experience supporting production mainframe environments.
- Experience with mainframe debugging tools and utilities.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently while coordinating effectively with distributed teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with:
- Experience supporting DISA mainframe environments.
- Experience supporting financial batch processing systems.
- Prior experience working within federal government environments.
The base range for this position is $50.00 - $60.00 per hour, depending on experience. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hires across all U.S. locations. Individual compensation is determined by work location and additional factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
