Job Description
Job Title: Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Engineer Senior
Location: Remote. Must live in SC, NC, GA, FL, or AL
Travel: Up to 35%
Compensation: Highly competitive base salary, with additional upside for licensed PEs
About the Role:
A well-established automation and process safety engineering firm is adding a senior E&I engineer to its growing team. Youll own the electrical and instrumentation design on industrial projects from early concept through startup, and youll work directly with clients in manufacturing and critical infrastructure across the Southeast. This is a design engineering role, not a programming role. The mix is mostly engineering work from your home office, with client meetings and field work on top.
What Youll Do:
- Create electrical and controls designs for industrial plants and process facilities
- Lay out and check control panels, low-voltage power distribution, control network architecture, and field installation details
- Specify field instruments and define their wiring, termination, and installation requirements
- Read and make minor changes to existing PLC/HMI logic during testing and troubleshooting (no ground-up programming required)
- Write and carry out test and verification procedures for shop (FAT) and field (SAT) testing
- Produce and check engineering deliverables such as load and voltage-drop calculations, drawings, specifications, and design packages
- Interpret NEC, NFPA, and client standards, and use sound engineering judgment to reach compliant, practical designs
- Attend client meetings and site walks, and support installation, startup, and commissioning
- Help with proposals, estimates, and business development when needed
- Act as a trusted technical point of contact for clients, vendors, and project teams
What You Bring:
- BS in Electrical Engineering
- 7+ years of electrical engineering experience on industrial controls and power projects
- Hands-on low-voltage power distribution design (480V and below: MCCs, panelboards, transformers, feeders)
- Experience selecting, applying, and designing wiring for field instruments
- Working knowledge of NEC and NFPA codes and how to apply them on real projects
- Clear written and verbal communication with clients and project teams
- Ability to juggle several projects with shifting priorities
Nice to Have:
- PE license (strongly preferred)
- 712 years in industrial automation, instrumentation, controls, or electrical design
- Boiler controls, burner management systems (NFPA 85/86), or fire and gas detection systems
- Background supporting manufacturing or chemical plants
- Experience leading projects and coordinating mechanical, process, and controls disciplines
- Field investigation, startup, or commissioning experience
