The Senior Accountant is responsible for preparing and analyzing tax records and reports; processing local, state, and federal tax returns and prepare claims for tax refunds. In addition, the Senior Accountant will assist in completing statistical and financial reports as requested; maintain tax records and prepare miscellaneous tax studies, reconciliations, journal entries, and records; keep managers informed of activities and significant problems; provide assistance to staff accountants as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Attains specialized knowledge in at least one area of individual or business taxation
- Prepare individual and business taxes (1040, 1041, 1120, 1120S and 1065) at moderate difficulty level with some complex transactions
- Reviews simple tax returns with basic transactions
- Uses research tools as appropriate to answer questions during tax planning assignments and return preparation review
- Identifies tax situations with potential planning opportunities and makes informed recommendations accordingly
- Prepares and maintains supporting work papers as assigned and records of client contacts
- May assist in representing client during tax exams
- Participates in client meetings and contacts clients for additional information or clarification as needed
Experience
Required
- 2 year(s): Work experience in public accounting.
- Detailed knowledge of property taxes, excise taxes applicable to assigned clients.
- General knowledge of payroll tax issues that may impact assigned clients.
- Passed, conditioned or qualified to take the CPA exam.
