JOB SUMMARY:

 

Under the general direction of the Physical Therapist, the PTA will perform patient treatments as per established plan of care. The PTA will assist the RPT with complex treatment procedures if needed. Functions as a team member and work with other disciplines throughout the hospital to ensure the best possible patient care. The PTA is qualified to perform treatments with varying age groups including infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients. 

 

JOB RELATIONSHIPS:

 

  1. - Responsible to: Rehab Manager, Physical Therapist, the patient and family
  2. - Inter-relationships: Physicians and other department staff members
  3.  

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

  1. - Provides patient treatments utilizing modalities of exercise, heat, cold, massage, mobilization, hydrotherapy, light therapy, electricity and patient education as established in the plan of care.
  2. - Document the patient’s progress for review by other rehabilitation team members.
  3. - Instruct patients in proper gait techniques, exercises and use of assistive devices and ADL’s.
  4. - Responsible for patient’s personal care, environment and privacy throughout the treatment.
  5. - Responsible for proper care of orthotics, prosthetics, and assistive devices.
  6. - Completes billing procedures when necessary.
  7. - Assists in maintaining the Rehab Department and keeping the equipment clean/orderly.
  8. - Participates in hospital in servicing as assigned by the Rehab Director.
  9. - Recognize your role as part of the QAPI efforts at HMHD.
  10. - Carry out QAPI roles and responsibilities as assigned.
  11. - Follow established policies and procedures in support of QAPI efforts.
  12. - Support the Just Culture concept and its use to improve patient safety.

 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. - Education: Graduate of an accredited physical therapist assistant school. Associate of Applied Science degree.
  2. - Training and experience: Current CPR certification
  3. - Job knowledge: Knowledge of general Physical Therapy practice act. Capable of communicating effectively verbally and in writing. - Knowledge of Physical Therapy policy and procedures.
