This publicly traded cannabis company is looking to hire a Tax Manager to their team.  Reporting directly to the CFO you will assist with all aspects of the company's tax function, including income tax reporting, tax compliance, tax planning and strategy. This position requires a strategically focused leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement tax strategies to optimize the company's tax position and minimize tax liabilities
  • Responsible for the preparation and review of the consolidated income tax provision, including preparation of the tax disclosures in the company’s SEC filings (Forms 10-Q and 10-K), and related SOX 404 requirements
  • Direct the preparation and review of the federal and state tax returns
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in tax laws and regulations related to the cannabis industry and ensure the company's tax practices remain in compliance
  • Provide support for Sales tax compliance
  • Collaborates with finance, legal and the business on M&A activity, including tax due diligence, review of tax sections in acquisition agreements, and post-acquisition integration/compliance
  • Manages outside tax consultants that support the function’s tax planning and compliance
  • Assist with the Oversight of audits of federal and state income tax as well as state and local indirect tax filings, including coordination with third party vendors
  • Manages a team of tax professionals with a focus on development and mentoring
  • Leads with a continuous improvement mindset across the department
  • Liaise with cross functional business leaders on tax impacts to departments.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Law or other related degree as approved is required.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is required.
  • Minimum 7+ years of experience as a tax professional in a public accounting firm with cannabis industry clients
  • Must have experience with cannabis tax regulations, including and understanding of 280E and California tax filings
  • Strategic mindset, strong problem solving, and diligently performs assigned tasks with the highest degree of professionalism and integrity.
  • Must have excellent communication skills in business and technical environments.

 

Compensation up to $180,000 + bonus + stock

This is an onsite opportunity in Newport Beach
