Job Description

Step into a high-impact contract role where your mechanical design expertise will directly shape complex industrial and technology infrastructure projects. Joining a focused engineering team in Houston, you’ll take ownership of critical design packages that support fast-paced, technically demanding environments.

About the Role:

This role is responsible for creating, refining, and maintaining mechanical designs and detailed drawings that meet stringent industry and client standards. You will work closely with engineers and project teams to translate concepts into accurate, build-ready documentation, ensuring design integrity and consistency throughout the project lifecycle. Your work will directly support project delivery schedules and quality benchmarks across multiple concurrent assignments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop detailed mechanical designs and 3D models using SolidWorks, Inventor, or Creo based on engineering concepts and specifications.
  • Produce clear, accurate fabrication and assembly drawings incorporating GD&T and ASME standards.
  • Manage drawing and document revision control, ensuring changes are tracked, approved, and properly communicated.
  • Prepare and update bills of materials (BOMs), part lists, and related engineering documentation to support manufacturing and installation.
  • Collaborate with engineers to resolve design issues, optimize components, and improve overall system performance.
  • Perform structural layout and design of mechanical components, frames, and support structures for industrial applications.
  • Review and check drawings for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with applicable standards and project requirements.
  • Support design reviews by presenting models, drawings, and documentation, and implementing feedback into updated design packages.

Key Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Designer or Mechanical Drafter in an engineering or industrial environment.
  • Strong proficiency in 3D CAD modeling with SolidWorks, Inventor, or Creo.
  • Hands-on experience applying GD&T and working to ASME drawing and documentation standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage engineering documentation and drawing revision control in a structured system.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical components, assemblies, and structural design principles.
  • Ability to interpret engineering specifications, calculations, and layouts and translate them into detailed drawings.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to work to tight deadlines on multiple projects.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with engineers, project managers, and fabrication teams.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience designing for data center infrastructure, including equipment layouts, structural supports, and cooling systems.
  • Familiarity with PDM/PLM systems for CAD data management and configuration control.
  • Exposure to fabrication processes such as machining, welding, and sheet metal, and their impact on design.
  • Experience with industrial or process equipment design in oil & gas, energy, or related sectors.
  • Ability to perform basic engineering checks or calculations to validate design concepts.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree or technical diploma in Mechanical Design, Drafting, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field preferred but not mandatory with strong relevant experience.
  • Formal training or certification in 3D CAD (SolidWorks, Inventor, or Creo) is highly advantageous.
  • Coursework or certification in GD&T and ASME drawing standards preferred.

If you are a detail-driven Mechanical Designer ready to contribute to complex, high-visibility projects on a contract basis, we encourage you to apply.
