Job Description
Step into a high-impact design role where your mechanical and structural expertise directly shapes complex industrial projects. This contract opportunity offers the chance to work on diverse mechanical, piping, and structural scopes using industry-leading CAD tools within a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
About the Role:
As a CAD Mechanical Designer, you will be responsible for producing detailed 3D models and drawings that support engineering and construction activities across mechanical, piping, and structural disciplines. You will collaborate closely with engineers and project teams to translate design concepts into accurate, buildable documentation, ensuring alignment with project specifications and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop detailed 3D models and 2D drawings for mechanical, piping, and structural components using SolidWorks and Navisworks Manager.
- Create layout drawings, general arrangements, and fabrication details for equipment, piping systems, and structural supports.
- Coordinate design interfaces between mechanical, piping, and structural disciplines to ensure fit, function, and constructability.
- Perform clash detection and model reviews in Navisworks Manager, resolving conflicts in collaboration with engineering and project teams.
- Update and revise drawings and models in response to engineering changes, field markups, and client feedback.
- Apply relevant codes, standards, and project specifications to design work to maintain compliance and quality.
- Prepare and organize drawing packages and model deliverables for internal review and client submittals.
- Work closely with engineers, project managers, and other designers to maintain schedule, accuracy, and consistency across all design outputs.
Key Requirements:
- Proven experience as a CAD Mechanical Designer working on mechanical, piping, and structural scopes in an industrial or energy-related environment.
- Strong proficiency in SolidWorks for 3D modeling and detailed mechanical design.
- Hands-on experience using Navisworks Manager for model coordination and clash detection.
- Demonstrated ability to produce clear, accurate fabrication and construction drawings from engineering inputs.
- Familiarity with mechanical and structural design practices, including steel structures, equipment supports, and piping layouts.
- Ability to interpret engineering specifications, P&IDs, and general arrangement drawings.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple design tasks within project deadlines.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills for working within multidisciplinary project teams.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience with industrial facilities such as oil and gas, petrochemical, power, or heavy manufacturing.
- Knowledge of piping stress considerations and support design principles.
- Exposure to other CAD platforms or BIM tools used in multidisciplinary design environments.
- Understanding of construction sequencing and field installation practices.
- Prior contract or consulting experience supporting multiple concurrent projects.
Qualifications:
- Associate degree or technical diploma in Mechanical Design, Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
- Certification or formal training in SolidWorks and/or Navisworks Manager preferred.
- Additional coursework or certification in piping or structural design is an advantage.
- Equivalent combination of education and relevant industry experience will be considered.
