Job Description
Step into a hands-on production role where your precision and technical skill directly impact product quality and delivery. This contract position offers the opportunity to work with advanced honing equipment in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, contributing to critical components for industrial applications.
About the Role:
In this role, you will operate horizontal honing machines to produce high-precision components to exact specifications. You will be responsible for controlling equipment, monitoring performance, and ensuring parts meet strict dimensional and quality standards through accurate inspection. Your work will support efficient production flow and help maintain consistent output in a busy workshop setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set up and operate horizontal honing machines according to job specifications and technical drawings.
- Adjust machine settings, tooling, and fixtures to achieve required tolerances and surface finishes.
- Perform in-process and final inspections of honed parts using appropriate measuring tools and gauges.
- Compare horizontal and vertical honing requirements and select appropriate methods based on job needs.
- Read and interpret technical drawings and schematics to determine machining parameters and sequence of operations.
- Operate overhead cranes safely to move raw materials, workpieces, and tooling in and out of machines.
- Monitor equipment performance, identify issues, and escalate or correct problems to maintain production quality and throughput.
- Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow established safety procedures and shop protocols.
Key Requirements:
- Proven experience operating honing machines in a manufacturing or machining environment.
- Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
- Demonstrated skill in equipment operation and control, including setting and adjusting machine parameters.
- Experience performing dimensional and visual inspections using measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers, bore gauges).
- Familiarity with horizontal vs. vertical honing applications and their impact on part quality.
- Experience with safe overhead crane operation in an industrial setting.
- Solid understanding of shop safety practices and adherence to standard operating procedures.
- Ability to work to tight tolerances and meet production targets with minimal supervision.
Desirable Skills:
- 5 years of honing machine operation experience, preferably with horizontal honing equipment.
- Exposure to CNC-controlled honing or other automated machining processes.
- Experience working in high-volume production environments with strict quality standards.
- Knowledge of basic machine maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Background in metalworking, machining, or precision manufacturing.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Vocational or technical training in machining, manufacturing technology, or related field preferred.
- Certification or documented training in overhead crane operation preferred.
- Additional coursework or certifications in industrial safety or quality control considered an advantage.
If you have the honing experience and technical focus to deliver precise, consistent results, we invite you to apply and contribute to a high-performing manufacturing team.
