Production Operator

Location: Montpelier, IA (Muscatine, IA area)
Job Type: Full-Time, Hourly
Reports To: Production Manager
Schedule: Rotating 12-hour shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays
Shift Times: 5:00 AM – 5:00 PM / 5:00 PM – 5:00 AM
Overtime: Eligible

Position Overview

We are seeking a dependable and safety-focused Production Operator to support daily manufacturing operations at an industrial production facility in Montpelier, Iowa.

The Production Operator will perform a variety of hands-on production and equipment-related tasks while following established standard operating procedures and safe work practices. This position requires employees to work rotating 12-hour shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a hands-on industrial environment, operating and maintaining equipment, troubleshooting issues, and working collaboratively as part of a team.

Essential Responsibilities

• Follow all established safety procedures, rules, and emergency evacuation routes.
• Learn and consistently follow departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), and safe operating practices.
• Develop and maintain strong equipment operating skills through departmental training and skills progression programs.
• Work in a hands-on operational capacity within the assigned production area.
• Operate, inspect, and maintain production equipment required for daily operations.
• Cross-train on various departmental functions and become proficient in multiple production responsibilities.
• Respond effectively to unplanned events, equipment issues, and changing production priorities.
• Perform routine preventative maintenance and basic troubleshooting on production equipment.
• Collect, verify, document, and enter production and operational data.
• Communicate effectively with team members and contribute to a positive, safety-focused work environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support production and operational goals.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Basic mechanical skills and mechanical aptitude.
• Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office.
• Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Dependable and conscientious with a strong commitment to attendance and punctuality.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to follow safety procedures and established work instructions.
• Ability to work effectively in a physically demanding, industrial environment.
• Willingness and ability to work rotating day and night shifts, including weekends and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

• 3+ years of industrial experience preferred.
• Previous experience in heavy industry, manufacturing, construction, or a similar environment.
• Experience operating industrial equipment such as:
  • Cab cranes
  • Forklifts
  • Hand torches
• Experience with equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, or preventative maintenance.
• Associate degree or technical certificate in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Technology, or a related field.

Education

Required:

• High school diploma, GED, or HSE equivalent.

Preferred:

• Associate degree or technical certificate in a mechanical, electrical, industrial, or related field.

Schedule & Working Conditions

• Full-time, hourly position.
• Eligible for overtime.
• Rotating 12-hour swing shifts.
• Schedule includes nights, weekends, and holidays.
• No travel is expected for this position.
