SSD Triage Engineer – NVMe Test

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced SSD Triage Engineer to join an NVMe functional test team. This role will focus on planning, executing, debugging, and triaging functional tests for NVMe Solid State Drives (SSDs).

The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of storage protocols, hands-on experience with SSD or HDD testing, scripting capabilities, and proven experience performing failure triage. The ability to collaborate across test development, test execution, and firmware engineering teams is essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and execute functional tests for NVMe-based Solid State Drives.
• Perform detailed debugging and failure analysis of functional test results.
• Lead failure triage to determine the root cause of test execution failures.
• Analyze failures and determine whether issues are related to:
  • SSD device firmware
  • Test scripts or automation
  • Test environment or hardware setup
  • Test execution or configuration
• Leverage storage protocol knowledge, test scripting expertise, and historical test execution data to isolate and identify issues.
• Collaborate closely with test development, test execution, and SSD firmware engineering teams to investigate and resolve failures.
• Document test results, failure analysis, root causes, and recommended corrective actions.
• Support continuous improvement of functional test processes, automation, and debugging methodologies.
• Manage multiple testing and triage activities while meeting project timelines.

Required Qualifications & Skills

SSD & Storage Protocol Knowledge

• Strong understanding of at least one front-end storage protocol, such as:
  • NVMe / PCIe – preferred
  • SAS
  • USB
• Demonstrated experience working with SSDs, HDDs, or related storage technologies.
• Ability to understand and troubleshoot storage protocol behavior and device interactions.

Test Scripting & Automation

• Experience with test scripting and automation.
• Proficiency with Python is strongly preferred.
• Experience developing, modifying, or troubleshooting test scripts.
• Ability to analyze test scripts and execution logs to identify potential sources of failure.

Failure Triage & Debugging

• Proven experience performing failure triage and root-cause analysis in a hardware/software testing environment.
• Ability to distinguish between device firmware issues and problems associated with test scripts, test infrastructure, or test setup.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to correlate test failures with execution history and other available data.
• Experience working collaboratively with multiple engineering teams to drive issues toward resolution.

Preferred Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with NVMe SSD functional testing.
• Experience with PCIe and NVMe protocol analysis and debugging.
• Experience working with SSD firmware development or validation teams.
• Familiarity with automated storage testing frameworks.
• Experience analyzing test logs and failure data.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, cross-functional engineering environment.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on test engineer who combines storage protocol expertise, scripting skills, and strong failure-triage capabilities. You should be comfortable investigating complex test failures, determining whether the issue originates from the device or the test environment, and collaborating with engineering teams to identify and resolve root causes.
