Position: Middleware Engineer (Omaha, NE)
Job Overview:
The Middleware Engineer is responsible for the administration, design, and optimization of middleware platforms that enable seamless integration between internal systems and cloud-based applications. This role partners closely with Enterprise Architects, development teams, and IT stakeholders to deliver scalable, secure, and high-performing API and integration solutions.
The Middleware Engineer brings deep expertise in integration patterns, middleware technologies, and software development best practices, ensuring reliable and efficient data exchange across the organization’s technology ecosystem.
This is a direct-hire position.
What you will be doing as a Middleware Engineer…Middleware Platform Management:• Administer and support middleware platforms including MuleSoft Anypoint Platform, Axway MFT, and related integration technologies
• Design, configure, and maintain middleware infrastructure and services
• Translate business requirements into scalable, reusable API and integration solutions in collaboration with Enterprise Architects
• Develop and implement middleware configurations alongside development teams
• Monitor system performance, conduct tuning, and ensure platform reliability and availability
• Troubleshoot issues, respond to incidents, and perform timely patching and upgrades
• Maintain service catalogs and integration documentation, including system configurations and process flows
• Partner with QA and Release Management teams to support testing and deployment activities
• Automate manual processes to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability
• Research and resolve data and integration-related issues
Planning & Delivery:• Participate in project planning and estimation activities
• Break down work into manageable tasks and prioritize effectively across multiple initiatives
• Provide both high-level and detailed effort estimates
• Support multiple concurrent projects while managing competing priorities
Technical Leadership:• Provide guidance on middleware architecture, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards
• Communicate technical concepts and best practices to development teams
• Ensure consistency between architectural design and implementation
• Identify opportunities to modernize and enhance middleware technologies
Continuous Improvement:• Identify and implement improvements to development processes, tools, and methodologies
• Promote automation, efficiency, and adoption of modern integration practices
• Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends
General Responsibilities:• Promote and adhere to safety policies and procedures
• Ensure compliance with organizational policies and applicable regulations
• Communicate effectively across teams and stakeholders
• Foster strong cross-functional relationships and collaboration
• Support fiscal responsibility by adhering to budgets and resource guidelines
• Perform additional duties as assigned
Required skills you ideally bring to the table as a Middleware Engineer…• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience
• 5+ years of software engineering experience with strong design capabilities
• 3+ years of experience developing software applications
• 3+ years of experience with middleware platforms (e.g., MuleSoft Anypoint, Axway MFT, API Management)
• Strong experience with Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) and web services (REST, SOAP, XML, WSDL, XSD)
• Experience with relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle) and JDBC
• Knowledge of security, logging, monitoring, and performance tuning practices
• Understanding of Enterprise Integration Patterns and message exchange patterns
• Experience with source control systems (e.g., Git, Bitbucket, SVN, TFS)
• Proficiency in Java and/or Groovy
• Experience with Agile, Waterfall, and CI/CD pipelines
• Strong knowledge of Windows environments and Microsoft Office tools
• Familiarity with QA processes and test-driven development
• Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
Preferred skills you ideally bring to the table as a Middleware Engineer…
• Experience with large-scale integration projects and complex data environments
• Knowledge of server architecture and system configuration
• Familiarity with tools such as Jenkins, Ansible, and SharePoint
• Experience with Managed File Transfer (MFT) platforms such as Axway
• Demonstrated interest in learning and applying new technologies
