MICR Tester

Location: Charlotte, NC (Onsite)
Duration:  6 Month Contract

Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented MICR Tester to support validation testing of check documents and related payment items to ensure compliance with industry-standard MICR (Magnetic Ink Character Recognition) requirements.

This role is responsible for executing testing procedures, identifying formatting and print quality defects, evaluating magnetic characteristics, and providing accurate test results to internal stakeholders. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and experience in testing, quality assurance, banking operations, or document processing environments.

Key Responsibilities

Execute MICR Testing

  • Receive and process check samples through MICR validation systems.

  • Perform testing using industry-standard tools to evaluate readability and compliance.

  • Analyze results and determine pass/fail status based on established testing standards.

Validate Document Compliance

  • Verify MICR line accuracy, including:

    • Character spacing and alignment

    • Routing and account field positioning

  • Evaluate print quality attributes, including:

    • Character dimensions and readability

    • Magnetic ink strength and signal quality

Document and Report Results

  • Prepare detailed testing summaries and findings.

  • Identify and classify failure reasons, including formatting, optical, and magnetic defects.

  • Provide test results and supporting documentation to internal stakeholders.

Support Reporting and Operational Processes

  • Assist with recurring operational and testing reports.

  • Maintain accurate testing records and documentation.

  • Follow established file management practices and naming conventions.

Collaborate with Internal Stakeholders

  • Partner with internal teams, including Relationship Managers and Operations teams, to communicate testing outcomes.

  • Support discussions regarding testing results, trends, and findings.

  • Participate in team meetings and knowledge-sharing activities.

Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in testing, quality assurance, operations, or related functions.

  • Experience in banking operations or document processing environments preferred.

  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.

  • Ability to interpret technical standards and testing criteria.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Outlook.

  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of MICR standards and check processing.

  • Experience with check imaging, scanning, or payment processing systems.

  • Exposure to operational reporting or data analysis.

  • Prior Banking Operations experience.

  • Strong collaboration and teamwork skills.

Interview Process

  • One 30-minute Microsoft Teams interview.

  • Interview conducted by the hiring manager.

Additional Information

  • This position supports an established testing function with existing contractor resources.

  • Prior experience within Banking Operations is beneficial but not required.

  • Candidates should be comfortable working in a structured, process-driven environment requiring a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

  • This position requires full-time onsite attendance in Charlotte, NC.
