CIS Solution Architect (SAP S/4HANA Utilities & Salesforce)

Location: Minneapolis, MN or Denver, CO (Hybrid)
Duration: 12 Month Contract
Schedule: Hybrid – Onsite Tuesday through Thursday, Remote Monday and Friday
Travel: Quarterly travel as needed

Overview

We are seeking an experienced CIS Solution Architect to support a large-scale Customer Information System (CIS) modernization initiative. This highly visible, multi-year transformation program will replace a 25-year-old legacy billing platform with SAP S/4HANA Utilities (IS-U) and Salesforce Energy & Utilities Cloud, creating a modern, scalable, and customer-centric technology ecosystem.

As a member of the Enterprise Architecture team, you will be responsible for designing, governing, and validating end-to-end solution architectures across SAP, Salesforce, AWS, and other enterprise platforms. This role requires a strong architectural background, deep experience in complex hybrid environments, and the ability to align technology solutions with enterprise architecture standards, governance processes, and SAP Clean Core principles.

This position offers an opportunity to influence one of the organization's largest technology transformation initiatives and help define the future-state architecture for customer, billing, payment, collections, and service operations.

Project Overview

CIS Modernization Program

• Multi-year (4–5 year), enterprise-wide modernization initiative

• Transition from a legacy Customer Information System to:

  • SAP S/4HANA Utilities (IS-U)

  • Salesforce Energy & Utilities Cloud

• Support blueprinting, solution architecture, governance, implementation validation, and architecture reviews

• Partner closely with business, technical, and vendor teams throughout the transformation lifecycle

Key Responsibilities

Solution Architecture & Design

• Develop and maintain end-to-end solution architectures supporting customer, billing, payment, collections, and related business processes.

• Design solutions spanning SAP S/4HANA Utilities, Salesforce Energy & Utilities Cloud, AWS, and supporting enterprise platforms.

• Define architecture patterns, integration strategies, and data movement approaches across complex ecosystems.

• Ensure solutions align with enterprise architecture principles, standards, and technology roadmaps.

• Minimize custom development and promote SAP Clean Core principles wherever possible.

Architecture Governance

• Lead architecture reviews and participate in Architecture Review Boards.

• Establish and enforce architectural standards, best practices, and governance processes.

• Evaluate technology capabilities and recommend new architectural patterns or approaches.

• Validate implementation activities to ensure alignment with approved architectural designs.

• Review and approve technical designs, integration patterns, and solution approaches.

Integration & Data Architecture

• Design integration solutions across SAP, Salesforce, AWS, and enterprise systems.

• Develop scalable data architecture and data movement strategies.

• Define API, event-driven, and integration patterns using SAP BTP, Integration Suite, and related technologies.

• Ensure architecture supports resiliency, scalability, performance, security, and observability requirements.

Stakeholder Collaboration

• Partner with business leaders, functional teams, technical teams, and vendors to align solutions with business objectives.

• Communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Facilitate architecture discussions, decision-making sessions, and design workshops.

• Provide architectural leadership throughout the project lifecycle.

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in Solution Architecture, Enterprise Architecture, or related architecture disciplines.

• 2+ years of experience with SAP S/4HANA Utilities (IS-U).

• 2+ years of experience with SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) and SAP Integration Suite.

• 4+ years of experience designing solutions within AWS environments.

• Proven experience designing end-to-end architectures across multiple enterprise systems and platforms.

• Strong background in architecture governance, design reviews, and technology standards.

• Experience working within complex hybrid cloud and on-premises environments.

• Demonstrated ability to align architectural decisions with enterprise strategy and business objectives.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field.

• SAP Certified Solution Architect or SAP Technology certifications.

• Experience with:

  • Salesforce Energy & Utilities Cloud

  • DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines

  • TOGAF

  • LeanIX

• Utility industry experience preferred.

• Experience supporting large-scale ERP, CIS, CRM, or digital transformation initiatives.
