Senior Telecom Power Engineer / Telecom Engineer III

Location: Raleigh, NC (Hybrid – 3 days onsite)
Duration: 12 Month Contract
Client: Major Utility Company
Rate: $55-60/Hr

Overview

We are seeking a Senior Telecom Power Engineer to support telecommunications infrastructure initiatives within a large enterprise utility environment. This role will focus on the engineering, design, and delivery of AC and DC power solutions supporting telecom network infrastructure, including UPS, DC plant systems, and battery monitoring technologies.

This position is ideal for a hands-on telecom power engineer who understands the design and implementation of power systems supporting critical network and communications infrastructure.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design and engineer AC and DC power solutions for telecom infrastructure

  • Develop engineering documentation including equipment lists, installation instructions, and network diagrams

  • Design and implement UPS systems, DC plant systems, grounding solutions, and environmental monitoring systems

  • Prepare engineering job packages (EJPs) for installation and deployment

  • Perform planning, testing, and implementation of telecom power solutions

  • Provide 3rd level technical support to operations, NOC, and field teams

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure reliable telecom system deployments

  • Develop processes to improve operational support and reduce incident response time

  • Maintain awareness of current telecommunications and power infrastructure technologies


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or similar field with 6+ years of telecom power engineering experience

OR

  • Associate’s degree with 10+ years relevant experience

OR

  • High school diploma with 15+ years relevant telecom power engineering experience

Additional required skills:

  • Experience designing AC power systems (240/120V)

  • Experience with -48V DC telecom power systems

  • Knowledge of backup power and generator systems

  • Familiarity with National Electrical Code (NEC)

  • Experience with grounding systems for telecom shelters and towers

  • Strong documentation skills using Visio, Excel, Word, and other MS Office tools


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with telecom DC plant and UPS systems (Eltek, Vertiv, Powerware, Delta)

  • Experience with battery monitoring systems

  • Telecom infrastructure experience including:

    • Cisco routers and switches

    • Opengear

    • NetGuardian

    • Nokia microwave

    • Alcatel Lucent

    • Ciena optical transport

  • Experience with ServiceNow

  • Experience working in Agile environments

  • Experience in utility or energy industry

  • Familiarity with Jira, Kanban, or Agile methodologies

  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification in North Carolina


Work Environment

  • Hybrid schedule: 3 days onsite in downtown Raleigh

  • Up to 5% travel for site visits and implementations

  • Work closely with telecom engineering, field services, and operations teams

  • Strong telecom power engineering background

  • Experience designing UPS and DC power infrastructure for telecom networks

  • Comfortable working independently and leading small engineering efforts

  • Strong documentation and communication skills

  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced infrastructure environment
