Mainframe Software Developer (COBOL)

Location: Charlotte, NC (300 S Brevard St)
Work Model: Onsite/Hybrid (per team requirements)
Duration: 18-month contract

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Mainframe Software Developer to support critical enterprise banking applications within a highly regulated financial environment. This role involves working on moderately complex initiatives, contributing to large-scale planning efforts, and collaborating with cross-functional technology teams to deliver reliable, secure, and scalable solutions.

The ideal candidate will bring strong hands-on expertise in COBOL and core IBM mainframe technologies, along with experience operating in Agile environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, code, test, debug, and document mainframe applications

• Participate in moderately complex software engineering initiatives

• Analyze and resolve production and application issues

• Collaborate with team members and stakeholders to deliver enterprise solutions

• Ensure adherence to compliance, security, and enterprise standards

• Contribute to planning and modernization efforts within the mainframe environment

• Leverage AI tooling (e.g., Copilot) to enhance development lifecycle efficiency

Required Qualifications

• 4+ years of software engineering experience

• Strong working expertise with:

  • COBOL

  • JCL (Job Control Language)

  • DB2

  • CICS

  • VSAM

  • CA7 Scheduler

  • NDM (Network Data Mover)

  • IBM Mainframe Utilities

  • SDSF

  • IBM SPUFI

  • RACF Security

• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments

• Familiarity with AI development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot or similar)

Preferred Background

• Experience within banking or financial services organizations

• Exposure to enterprise compliance and regulated environments

• Strong troubleshooting and production support experience

• Ability to clearly articulate technical experience
