The Digital Product Owner (DPO) represents business stakeholders to define, document, and prioritize business needs so delivery teams can build effective solutions. This role serves as the day-to-day business decision-maker, ensuring execution aligns with business strategy, customer needs, and enterprise controls.
The DPO works across Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid methodologies and partners closely with business leaders, IT teams, and cross-functional stakeholders.
Elicit, analyze, document, and refine business requirements
Serve as primary business representative to delivery teams
Prioritize team backlogs to align with sponsor and executive strategy
Manage and guide two IT team backlogs through the full SDLC
Act as day-to-day decision maker for execution teams
Lead requirement validation, documentation, and metric development
Identify and mitigate operational and delivery risks
Escalate issues and recommend solutions
Collaborate with UX, designers, developers, testers, and SMEs
Review and accept/reject development output based on acceptance criteria
Assess and prioritize new features, enhancements, and defects
Develop adoption, benefit realization, and risk tracking metrics
Support change readiness and business adoption
Mentor junior DPOs and team members
Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills (critical)
Experience managing backlogs for multiple IT teams
Proven ability to influence stakeholders and SMEs
Experience in Agile and Waterfall delivery environments
Ability to manage scope, risk, priorities, and business value
