Project Overview: The Systems/business analyst will be part of the operation’s capital delivery project team, which handles around 25 projects under operations. The BA role involves navigating a large corporate environment and may be split between multiple large and complex projects.
Deliverables: Responsibilities include requirements gathering and documentation for functional and non-functional requirements, assisting with ULC governance processes, and working closely with QA test leads to map requirements to design capabilities and test cases. The BA may work on projects like the gas transaction system replacement (gas billing) and the newer SPP Market Plus project. Typically, the BA works on two projects simultaneously.
Position Overview:
- Business Systems Analyst with extensive experience problem solving driving towards clear and concise requirements for development teams.
- Agile Practitioner (ScrumMaster) skilled in facilitating and flushing out agreements leading to requirements definition of ready and done. Skilled at finding and addressing impediments maintaining developer productivity.
- Deep agile methodology experience creating user story backlog items for selection to sprint backlog including refinement and team grooming (sizing, prioritization, complexity, and time/effort).
- Experienced in updating Middleware internal technical artifact documents including data maps, data flow diagrams, data dictionaries, and control/attributes tables, and updating these business analysis documents as well as traditional (BRD, FS, Test Scripts, etc.).
- Adept at preparing early root cause analysis strategies with business and technology stakeholders to drive out high-level design and associated analytical constructs that describe the cause/effect relationships users have with new design functionality.
- Prepared mockups of existing XDP schema files using Altova XML Spy (tool) reviewing with development teams for in-data redesign solutions.
- Jira /Confluence agile project management toolset for requirements management and project artifacts storage.
- Hadoop large data migration project moving MS SQL Data into Hadoop Ecosystem, including rolling out new security tool - server neighborhood defense.
- Agile methodology transformation project, implementing agile consulting coach best practices. Facilitating agile requirements gathering techniques with product owners.
- Experienced in building and delivering detailed requirement artifacts prepared for reception by technical development teams (onshore or offshore).
Ideal candidate:
The ideal candidate for the Systems/Business Analyst II position should have 5-7 years of relevant experience in a large corporate matrixed environment, preferably within the utility sector. They should be well-versed in waterfall-based projects, as most projects at the Company follow this methodology, with less emphasis on agile projects. The candidate should have experience with commercial off-the-shelf software implementations and, in some cases, migrating existing on-premises software solutions to a vendor cloud environment.
The projects typically involve operations software for transmission, gas, distribution, and renewables.
Responsibilities:
The BA is a core project team member reporting to the Project Manager. Daily tasks include gathering and documenting requirements, coordinating meetings, using tools like Excel spreadsheets and Jira, and assisting with QA test leads and ULC governance processes. The BA must be willing to self-start and not shy about coordinating meetings
