Job Title: Plumbing and Heating Department Manager
Compensation: $100,000 – $150,000 per year (based on experience and qualifications)
Location: Portland, Maine
Benefits: 401K, Health Insurance, PTO, Holiday Pay
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Plumbing and Heating Department Manager to lead and grow our Plumbing and Heating division. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing both the technical execution and business performance of the department—including P&L management, team leadership, job site support, and process improvement.
This is a hands-on leadership role ideal for someone with a Master Plumber License (required) and ideally a Master Oil Burner License as well. We’re looking for a leader with strong technical expertise, business acumen, and a high level of emotional intelligence (EQ) who can build a strong team culture, drive KPIs, and consistently deliver outstanding results.
Department Leadership
Oversee all business functions of the Plumbing and Heating division, including budgeting, forecasting, and P&L performance
Set and track KPIs to drive departmental success and continuous improvement
Develop, document, and implement systems and processes to improve operational efficiency
Team Management & Development
Manage, mentor, and train a team of skilled technicians (plumbing, heating, oil burner installation, etc.)
Foster a respectful, collaborative, and high-performance team culture
Support recruiting, onboarding, and ongoing development of team members
Job Site Involvement
Provide on-site support for jobs that require a Master Plumber or Master Oil Burner license/sign-off
Guide and instruct field technicians to ensure high-quality work and code compliance
Assist with hands-on work as needed, while balancing physical demands and team collaboration
Customer & Business Support
Maintain strong customer relationships and ensure excellent service delivery
Collaborate with company leadership and other departments to align goals and strategy
Serve as a key technical resource within the company for plumbing and heating matters
Master Plumber License (Required)
Master Oil Burner License (Preferred)
Gas Appliance License (Preferred but not required)
Proven experience leading a team in a plumbing, heating, or similar skilled trades environment
Strong technical knowledge across plumbing, heating, and oil burner systems
High emotional intelligence (EQ) with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Demonstrated success managing departmental KPIs and achieving business goals
Ability to balance fieldwork and administrative responsibilities effectively
Strong organizational, time management, and customer service skills
Ability to lift and perform physical requirements associated with plumbing work, or work alongside field technicians as needed
