Job Description
NOW HIRING: Engineer III Transmission Line Direct Hire | Full-Time Comprehensive benefits effective Day 1
RCS Staffing is placing an Engineer III Transmission Line with a leading transmission and substation engineering firm. This is a direct-hire opportunity for a transmission line engineer ready to contribute to complex, high-voltage design projects from general structure arrangement and layout through foundation design, sag and tension analysis, and full construction package delivery. You will work on renewable energy interconnections, grid modernization projects, and conventional transmission line work, building the technical depth and project ownership that define the next level of engineering leadership.
OVERVIEW OF YOUR ROLE As an Engineer III Transmission Line, you will provide transmission line design, engineering, and technical support to a transmission engineering and design team delivering safe, cost-effective, and high-quality engineering services. Working under minimal supervision, you will perform responsible charge engineering duties, lead discipline work on assigned projects, manage project schedules and budgets, and develop complete transmission line design packages from layout through construction documents. This role also includes support for proposal development, cost estimating, and direct client interaction.
YOU WILL
- Lead transmission line discipline work on assigned projects performing responsible charge engineering duties and managing project schedules and budgets.
- Create and deliver complete transmission line design packages including drawings, bill of materials, conduit lists, construction specifications, and permits on time, within budget, and at a high level of quality.
- Apply technical competency across all aspects of transmission line design: general arrangement and structure layout, line components (hardware, poles, permits, survey, clearances, loading), foundation design, grounding, lightning and shielding protection, and sag and tension limits.
- Perform transmission line analysis using PLSCADD, structure design using PLSPOLE, and foundation design using MFAD.
- Develop total installed cost estimates and support preparation of specifications and contract documents.
- Oversee the work of junior staff and mentor designers and drafters.
- Interact with client engineers and technical personnel on a day-to-day basis; develop and maintain professional client relationships.
- Monitor project deliverables and schedules; communicate progress and solutions clearly to project teams and clients.
- Visit project sites to advise on transmission line engineering issues and modify designs to resolve field construction challenges.
- Support permitting activities and assist the Project Manager with proposal preparation and contract review.
- Collaborate effectively with other design disciplines, construction contractors, consultants, material suppliers, and clients.
YOU ARE THE IDEAL CANDIDATE IF YOU HAVE
- Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural or Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
- 57 years of experience as a practicing engineer in the electrical utility industry with a focus on transmission line design.
- 5+ years of hands-on electrical utility transmission line design experience (as an employee, contractor, or consultant) with working knowledge of high-voltage transmission line design at 69kV and above.
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred; candidates with a clear path to licensure will be considered.
- Working knowledge of NESC, ASCE, ACI, and IEEE standards as they apply to transmission line design.
- Proficiency in PLSCADD line design, PLSPOLE structure design, and MFAD foundation design software.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision; self-motivated with strong written and oral communication skills.
IT'S A BONUS IF YOU HAVE
- Registered Professional Engineer (PE) with an NCEES record.
- Experience on renewable energy interconnection projects (wind, solar, BESS) or grid modernization transmission line work.
- Experience developing total installed cost estimates and preparing specifications and contract documents for transmission line projects.
- Experience working in a field or construction environment implementing or verifying engineering drawings.
- Familiarity with permitting processes and regulatory requirements for high-voltage transmission line construction.
