Job Description

NOW HIRING: Engineer III – Electrical (Transmission Substation) Direct Hire | Full-Time Comprehensive benefits effective Day 1

RCS Staffing is placing an Engineer III – Electrical with a leading transmission and substation engineering firm. This is a direct-hire opportunity for an electrical engineer ready to tackle increasingly complex design challenges in the power delivery space — working with minimal supervision, developing advanced technical skills, and building the independent judgment that defines the next level of engineering leadership. You will contribute billable project work, solve complex electrical engineering problems, and begin growing the project management and client-facing capabilities that advance your career.

OVERVIEW OF YOUR ROLE As an Engineer III – Electrical, you will provide electrical engineering expertise and technical guidance to transmission substation engineering and design teams — delivering safe, cost-effective, and high-quality engineering services. Working under minimal supervision, you will perform complex electrical engineering work, develop solutions to technical design challenges, and take increasing ownership of project tasks. This role is both directly billable and an opportunity for professional growth within a technically rigorous team serving electric utilities nationwide.

YOU WILL

  • Provide electrical engineering expertise and technical guidance in the identification, analysis, and resolution of complex design and engineering problems.
  • Perform assigned electrical engineering tasks with minimal supervision — taking increasing ownership of project scope, deliverables, and technical decisions.
  • Provide effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities on assigned projects.
  • Produce thorough, timely, and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches.
  • Drive continuous improvement of your engineering, technical, and professional knowledge, skills, and performance.
  • Maintain accurate records and files; communicate progress, findings, and solutions clearly to project teams and clients.
  • Interact professionally with clients and project stakeholders; support the development of strong customer relationships.
  • Manage multiple tasks simultaneously and provide leadership and guidance to other team members as your expertise develops.

YOU ARE THE IDEAL CANDIDATE IF YOU HAVE

  • 4–8 years of experience as a practicing engineer in the electrical engineering field, with exposure to transmission substation or power delivery design.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license — or the ability to obtain PE licensure within one year of hire.
  • Proficient command of electrical engineering theories, principles, and practices relevant to substation and power delivery systems.
  • Strong ability to research engineering and design issues, evaluate alternatives, make sound recommendations, and present them effectively.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and with minimal supervision, while also contributing as a productive team member.
  • Good written and oral communication skills; able to document work clearly and communicate progress to project teams and clients.
  • Customer-oriented mindset with the ability to manage multiple tasks and provide leadership to other team members.

IT'S A BONUS IF YOU HAVE

  • Active Registered Professional Engineer (PE) license at time of hire.
  • Direct experience in the electric utility industry — utility or T&S engineering firm background is preferred.
  • Proficiency in project management principles — experience planning and managing engineering project scopes, budgets, and schedules.
  • Experience working on transmission substation projects including physical layout, equipment design, or protection and control systems.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and national codes applicable to substation electrical design.
