Job Description

RCS Staffing has an immediate need for a TIG Welder (GTAW) in Columbia, South Carolina. This is a full-time, direct-hire, shop-based assignment with our client. This position offers a competitive salary based on experience, a $5,000 sign-on bonus, a 4-day work week, and a comprehensive benefits package including varied insurance offerings with company match and professional development opportunities.

Overview of YOUR Role as a TIG Welder

Our client solves some of the most challenging problems in the water industry — from first-response support at high-profile nuclear events to implementing patented, first-of-its-kind industrial water treatment technology. Their projects include industrial water recycling and cleaning up legacy Cold War wastewater at government sites. In this role, you will fabricate high-quality piping assemblies and skids that meet ASME pressure vessel and piping codes, working with carbon steel, stainless steel, and duplex stainless steel in a positive, team-oriented shop environment.

As a TIG Welder, YOU Will:

  • Perform GTA (TIG) welding on carbon steel, stainless steel, and duplex stainless steel piping assemblies and skids — all welds must pass ASME pressure vessel and piping codes.
  • Prep pipe fittings and pipe ends for full penetration welds on pipe assemblies.
  • Interpret drawings and welding symbols used to fabricate piping assemblies and skids.
  • Calculate pipe fitting take-outs and piping measurements accurately.
  • Weld structural steel in all positions as required.
  • Operate a high-frequency amperage control foot pedal during welding operations.
  • Select the appropriate filler wire for a given base metal type.

YOU Are the Ideal TIG Welder Candidate If You Have:

  • The ability to weld pipe diameters ranging from 1/2" to 36" in all positions — testing will be conducted in the fixed 6G position.
  • Proficiency in GTAW (TIG) welding on carbon steel, stainless steel, and duplex stainless steel.
  • The ability to operate a high-frequency amperage control foot pedal while welding.
  • The ability to weld structural steel in all positions.
  • Working knowledge of filler wire selection for various base metal types.
  • Ability to read and interpret welding drawings and symbols to fabricate piping assemblies.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to weld quality and code compliance.

It's a BONUS If You Have:

  • Prior experience fabricating piping assemblies or skids for industrial, water treatment, nuclear, or process industry applications.
  • Familiarity with ASME pressure vessel and piping codes.
  • Experience working in a shop fabrication environment producing code-compliant weldments.
  • Multiple active welding certifications across process and position.
