Job Description

RCS Staffing has an immediate need for a Mechanical Design Engineer in Piketon, Ohio. This is a full-time, direct-hire assignment with our client. This position offers a competitive base salary range, is bonus eligible, and includes a comprehensive benefits package with vacation and holidays.

Overview of YOUR Role as a Mechanical Design Engineer

Are you a hands-on mechanical engineer with a passion for fluid systems? Our client is seeking a driven Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team developing and upgrading advanced process environments at a DOE-contracted nuclear energy facility. This role offers the perfect blend of technical design, hands-on field support, and professional growth under the mentorship of industry experts. If you are looking to take the next step in your career designing critical piping infrastructure for liquids and gases, this is the opportunity for you. You will transition from supporting senior engineers to taking growing ownership of projects with increasing autonomy over time.

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, YOU Will:

  • Support the design, modification, and layout of facility piping systems — performing component sizing for pumps, motors, heaters, blowers, valves, and pressure vessels.
  • Create, update, and redline mechanical and piping drawings, plans, and specifications, ensuring all work complies with applicable codes and industry standards.
  • Perform pressure-drop, flow, and basic thermal calculations; assist with steady-state and transient analyses using CFD, FEA, or spreadsheet-based tools.
  • Conduct pipe-stress and support-structure checks, documenting results for review, and actively participate in hazard analyses, safety reviews, and quality assurance activities.
  • Prepare ROMs, equipment lists, and technical evaluations to support procurement activities.
  • Get hands-on with factory acceptance tests, field inspections, and system troubleshooting under the guidance of senior engineering staff.

YOU Are the Ideal Mechanical Design Engineer Candidate If You Have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution — or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience as a mechanical designer, technician, or early-career engineer focused on piping, fluid systems, or process equipment in an industrial setting.
  • Practical experience supporting equipment sizing and selection for pumps, valves, heat exchangers, and related mechanical components.
  • Familiarity with pressure-drop calculations, pipe-stress concepts, and basic structural checks.
  • Working knowledge of relevant codes and standards such as ASME and applicable welding procedures, along with familiarity with industrial safety expectations.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a DOE "Q" level security clearance (required for this position).

It's a BONUS If You Have:

  • An active DOE "Q" clearance or Top Secret clearance — candidates with an active clearance will be prioritized.
  • Exposure to drafting and analysis tools such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CFD/FEA packages, and/or piping-stress software.
  • Experience in regulated or process industries — chemical, oil & gas, water/wastewater, manufacturing, or similar.
  • Relevant training such as ASME code familiarization, piping-stress fundamentals, or OSHA safety coursework.
  • Prior experience at a DOE site, nuclear facility, or similarly regulated federal energy program.
