RCS Staffing has an immediate need for a Power Plant Specialist in Medford, Massachusetts 02135. This is a full-time, contract, on-site assignment with our client. This position offers a competitive package including benefits, vacation, and holidays.

Overview of YOUR role as a Power Plant Specialist

RCS is seeking a Power Plant Specialist to support daily operations, maintenance, and safety compliance at the Tufts University Central Energy Plant (CEP) in Medford, MA. This position reports to the Regional Manager and will be a key part of a small team responsible for operational reliability, maintenance coordination, and safety performance at the facility.

As a Power Plant Specialist YOU will:

  • Thrive in a safety-centric team culture and promote continuous safety improvement.

  • Report safety incidents, support investigations, and take corrective actions.

  • Operate and maintain the plant in compliance with all permits and environmental standards.

  • Develop and maintain a proactive maintenance plan and oversee equipment reliability.

  • Coordinate with contractors and manage planned maintenance outages and records.

  • Identify opportunities for upgrades to enhance safety and reliability.

  • Respond to and manage plant-related issues during off-hours when required.

  • Support the Regional Manager with budgeting and cost control.

  • Recommend cost-saving strategies without compromising plant performance.

  • Maintain operator training and qualification programs.

  • Review and update standard operating procedures (SOPs).

  • Order materials, schedule deliveries, and approve related invoices.

  • Foster strong customer relationships and contribute to special projects.

YOU are the ideal Power Plant Specialist candidate if you have:

  • A high school diploma or GED.

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in operations and maintenance within an industrial facility.

  • Hands-on experience with power generation, boiler systems, district steam heating, and chilled water systems.

  • Ability to read and interpret system drawings and P&IDs.

  • A valid U.S. driver’s license.

  • Strong organizational and leadership skills.

It’s a BONUS if you have:

  • Technical training through military service, trade school, or industry-recognized programs.

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or a technical discipline.

  • Applicable military or merchant marine experience.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).

  • Experience with Maximo CMMS
