Job Description
ProspectBlue is partnering with a growing restoration and project-based services company to identify a Corporate Accountant for its corporate office in Purcellville, VA. This is a full-time, onsite position reporting directly to the Controller.
The Corporate Accountant will support the monthly close and financial reporting process, with a focus on reconciliations, journal entries, WIP reporting, cash flow forecasting, tax compliance, and financial analysis. This is a great opportunity for someone who is detail-oriented, technically strong, and enjoys digging into the numbers and solving problems.
Responsibilities:
Accounting & Reconciliations~
Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations and review reconciliations prepared by other team members.
Prepare and analyze monthly Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules.
Reconcile prepaid accounts and record monthly amortization.
Record and reconcile depreciation and fixed assets.
Assist with lease accounting in accordance with GAAP.
Research and resolve discrepancies and variances.
Maintain accurate, organized, and audit-ready workpapers.
Month-End Close & Reporting
Prepare journal entries, including accruals, prepaids, lease accounting, and WIP entries.
Partner with the Controller on month-end close activities.
Prepare monthly financial reporting packages and flash reporting.
Build and maintain KPI reports and scorecards for leadership.
Assist with ad hoc financial reporting and analysis.
Cash Flow & Tax~
Assist with weekly, monthly, and 13-week cash flow forecasting.
Support actual-versus-forecast analysis.
Coordinate Personal Property Tax filings.
Prepare and file Sales and Use Tax returns.
Systems & Process Improvement
Build and maintain reports and dashboards using the companys ERP and reporting tools.
Identify opportunities to improve reporting and accounting processes.
Partner with the Controller on system integrations and automation initiatives.
Technical Accounting & Audit
Research GAAP guidance and assist with technical accounting documentation.
Support changes to accounting standards as needed.
Prepare audit schedules and PBC items for the annual external audit.
Respond to auditor requests in a timely and accurate manner.
Acquisitions & Special Projects~
Support accounting activities related to newly acquired companies.
Assist with data migration and onboarding companies into the ERP system.
Support the Controller and CFO with special projects and financial analysis.
What Success Looks Like
Reconciliations and WIP schedules are accurate and completed on time.
Monthly financial reporting is timely and reliable.
Flash reports, scorecards, and cash flow forecasts provide leadership with the information they need to make decisions.
Tax filings and audit requests are completed accurately and on schedule.
Accounting issues are researched and resolved with minimal supervision.
Qualifications~
Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance required.
35+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a Staff or Senior Accountant role.
Construction, restoration, or project-based services experience preferred.
Experience with WIP or percentage-of-completion accounting is a plus.
Multi-state tax experience preferred.
Sage Intacct or similar ERP experience preferred.
Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
Ability to research accounting issues and work independently.
Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
