Job Description

The Company

Our client is a well-established, privately held national distributor and installer of acoustical building products in Richmond VA, generating approximately $25M in annual revenue. The company sells and installs nationally, supported by an in-house installation team, a national network of trained service partners, and a robust e-commerce and consultative inside-sales presence.

Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Board of Directors (ownership group), the President will hold full P&L responsibility for the business, leading sales, marketing, commercial installation services, and back-office functions. This is a highly visible, hands-on leadership role for an experienced operator who can both execute the current strategy and help shape the company's next phase of growth. This is a 100% on-site role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own full P&L accountability for a ~$25M distribution and installation business; drive strategic, sustainable double-digit revenue growth.
  • Lead the national sales organization, including a consultative inside sales team (~15) and a contractor/bid sales function serving general contractors on large commercial projects.
  • Direct the commercial estimating and installation division, overseeing nationwide project delivery — from small service jobs to seven-figure commercial installations.
  • Own the marketing function, including website, e-commerce, and SEO/SEM strategy, partnering with outside agencies as needed.
  • Manage the company's national installation network, including in-house crews, trained third-party service partners, and regional subcontractors.
  • Evaluate and manage relationships with manufacturers and suppliers; negotiate private-label and drop-ship partnerships.
  • Oversee back-office functions (accounting, IT, HR), including shared-services resources across the broader ownership group.
  • Partner collaboratively with the ownership group/Board on strategic planning and key business decisions.
  • Represent the company personally on select high-value ($1M+) client engagements (travel is minimal, typically under 5%).

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of progressive sales and management experience, including at least 5 years in a growth-oriented leadership role.
  • Proven track record leading or growing a $20M+ distribution business involving technical products and e-commerce.
  • Direct sales and sales management experience required.
  • Marketing, SEO/SEM, e-commerce, and website management experience required.
  • Experience overseeing service, construction, or installation management.
  • Building products experience is strongly preferred, or experience in a closely related technical/construction field.
  • Demonstrated career stability — a track record of progressing within one organization for 5+ years (8–15+ years preferred); frequent job changes are a disqualifier absent a clear, well-explained exception.
  • Bachelor's degree required, technical discipline preferred; MBA a plus.
  • Lean/process-improvement practitioner background a plus.
