Controller – Manufacturing (Standard Cost Environment)

ProspectBlue is partnering with a dynamic manufacturing client in the Richmond area to identify a Controller with deep expertise in cost accounting. This is a high-impact leadership role overseeing core accounting and finance operations in a standard-cost environment, with direct partnership alongside executive leadership to drive financial clarity, operational efficiency, and strategic decision-making.

If you thrive in manufacturing, love digging into cost structures and variances, and want a seat at the leadership table — this could be a strong fit.

What You’ll Own:

  • Lead all cost accounting functions including standard costing, cost rolls, overhead rate development, and detailed variance analysis
  • Oversee month-end close and deliver accurate, timely financial reporting in accordance with U.S. GAAP
  • Drive annual budgeting and forecasting processes, partnering closely with leadership
  • Ensure inventory integrity within the ERP system, including oversight of physical inventories and valuations
  • Strengthen and optimize internal controls, accounting workflows, and system efficiencies
  • Partner with executive leadership to analyze performance, identify trends, and support strategic initiatives
  • Coordinate external audits and maintain compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Oversee payroll accuracy and collaborate with HR on benefits and deductions
  • Evaluate customer credit risk and establish appropriate credit limits
  • Develop and refine KPIs to enhance financial visibility across the organization
  • Review financial terms within contracts to ensure sound fiscal oversight
  • Champion continuous improvement across accounting, ERP, AP, payroll, and inventory processes

What We’re Looking For:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 5+ years of accounting experience within a standard-cost manufacturing environment
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP and regulatory compliance
  • Prior leadership experience managing accounting, payroll, and compliance functions
  • Advanced analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • High proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to prioritize effectively and lead in a fast-paced environment

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on Controller who enjoys balancing strategic partnership with operational execution and wants to make a measurable impact within a growing manufacturing organization.
