Job Description

ProspectBlue is seeking a Paralegal for a reputable law firm that specializes in Personal Injury in Norfolk, VA, The ideal candidate will will play a critical role in supporting the attorney with various legal tasks, including document preparation, client communication, case management, and administrative duties. Paralegals possess a strong understanding of legal terminology and procedures, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining confidentiality. This position requires attention to detail, the ability to work under pressure, and a proactive approach to supporting the legal team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
• Client Communication: Communicate with clients to schedule meetings, obtain necessary documents, and provide status updates. Maintain professional relationships with clients and external stakeholders.
• Document Preparation: Draft and review legal documents, including contracts, pleadings, briefs, motions, and discovery requests, ensuring compliance with legal procedures and deadlines.
• Case Management: Assist in managing case files, ensuring that all relevant documents and evidence are organized and properly filed. Maintain an accurate and up-to-date case management system.
• Court Filings: Prepare and file documents with courts, agencies, and regulatory bodies, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal rules and deadlines.
• Scheduling and Appointments: Schedule court dates, depositions, meetings, and appointments for attorneys and clients, and coordinate travel arrangements if necessary.
• Administrative Support: Perform general office duties, including answering phones, filing, photocopying, and preparing correspondence as needed.
• Confidentiality: Maintain confidentiality of sensitive legal information and client data in accordance with ethical and legal standards.
• Training – Assist with training legal assistant on the above various duties.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
• Familiarity with court processes, legal terminology, filing procedures, and document formats.
• Strong attention to detail when preparing legal documents, ensuring accuracy, proper formatting, and compliance with relevant rules.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced legal environment.
• Strong organizational skills to manage complex case files, documents, and schedules.
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
• Proficient with technology, with an emphasis on the Microsoft Office Suite and legal case management software.
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, verbal and written, with an ability to actively listen, relate to, and pave a smooth path to in order to maintain the long-term trust and partnership of our clients and each other.
• Self-motivated, with a dedication to keeping up to date professionally and technically, applying new knowledge to the job and sharing with team members.
• Effective in being proactive with problem solving, centering our client’s needs and wants in all aspects of the job.
• Ability to exercise good judgement and hold oneself and others to a high standard of ethics.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• High school diploma or educational equivalent
• Access to reliable transportation
• Computer skills, with working knowledge of the primary Microsoft Office programs

ADDITIONAL DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Degree in higher education
• Prior experience in a legal assistant or paralegal capacity
• Prior experience in a customer service role
