Director of Accounting and Finance
Position Summary:
The Director of Accounting and Finance will lead the financial management and accounting operations of the credit union, ensuring its financial health and long-term success. This role encompasses oversight of financial reporting, budgeting, regulatory compliance, investment management, and asset liability management (ALM). The Director will guide a team of accounting professionals, implement best practices, and align financial strategies with the organization’s goals.

Oversee the preparation and presentation of accurate, timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP and NCUA regulations.
Lead the development and management of the annual budget and periodic forecasting.
Provide senior leadership and the Board of Directors with detailed financial performance analysis and insights.
Monitor and manage the credit union’s liquidity, cash flow, and investment portfolio to ensure financial stability.
Track key financial performance metrics and recommend adjustments to achieve strategic financial goals.
Ensure compliance with all federal and state regulations, including NCUA guidelines.
Coordinate internal and external audits, examinations, and regulatory filings.
Maintain precise records of financial activities to meet reporting and compliance requirements.
Develop ALM strategies to manage interest rate risk, liquidity, and the balance sheet structure.
Conduct financial stress testing to assess performance under varying economic conditions.
Align ALM strategies with the credit union’s broader objectives in collaboration with executive leadership.
Advise the CFO and executive leadership team on accounting, ALM, and financial strategies to drive growth and member satisfaction.
Analyze financial trends and provide actionable recommendations to enhance operational efficiency and profitability.
Foster relationships with external partners, including financial institutions, vendors, and regulators.
Support strategic initiatives, such as mergers, acquisitions, and new product offerings.
Supervise, mentor, and develop the accounting and finance team, promoting a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous professional development.
Establish and maintain policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard the credit union’s financial assets.
Oversee vendor relationships related to accounting and financial services.
Collaborate with other leaders as part of the Tactical Team to advance department-specific and organizational initiatives.
Advocate for and uphold the credit union’s brand and values.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or MBA strongly preferred.
7–10 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, ideally in a credit union, banking, or financial services environment.
Deep knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance standards.
Exceptional leadership and team management capabilities.
Strong analytical and strategic thinking with meticulous attention to detail.
Advanced proficiency in financial software, accounting tools, and credit union core systems (preferred).
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex financial data to diverse audiences.
Ability to pass a comprehensive background check, including credit, criminal, and insurance screenings.
