They are currently seeking a Tax Analyst to manage their indirect tax compliance function for multiple operating divisions. POSITION OVERVIEW

This full-time position will be located in Richmond, Virginia and reports directly to the Tax Director. The Tax Analyst will be directly involved in all aspects of the company’s Domestic Indirect Tax process including Sales and Use, Personal Property, Real Property, and Business Professional Occupational License Taxes for its Marine Division, Healthcare Division, and Tennis Division.

This position will partner with the Tax Director on developing and constantly improving the company’s compliance processes, tax technical research and analysis, business support, and managing government audits. The Tax Analyst will also address the appropriate tax footprint/registrations, compiling the relevant data, determining calculation methodologies, and manage the automated sales tax compliance software (Avalara). This position will lead the tax technology efforts ensuring that Domestic indirect tax needs are identified and communicated to ensure proper compliance reporting and taxability determinations.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for the Sales/Use Taxes, Tangible/Business Personal Property Taxes, Real Property Taxes, and Business License compliance processes including, pulling data from financial systems or obtaining data from applicable operations or accounting teams; analyzing financial data for inclusion in returns or corrections, calculating taxes due where necessary; overseeing the indirect tax filings; assisting with monthly account reconciliations to ensure compliance with appliable internal accounting requirements and proper recording of tax payments; and supervising the maintenance of customer exemption certificates.
  • Support the Tax Director as it relates to new business inquiries, research and planning opportunities, and legislative monitoring/advocacy.
  • Field and assist with taxing authorities’ audit requests.
  • Participate in ad hoc projects, research and analysis as assigned.

EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE & SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree with a business or accounting major, or substantial equivalent work experience.
  • 2-3 years of tax experience at an accounting firm, corporate tax department experience, or similar work experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, monitor filing requirements and meet deadlines for numerous companies located in multiple states.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in conjunction with various tax filing deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills
  • Prior experience with indirect taxes preferred, but not required
  • Prior experience with Avalara is a plus
