System Administrator (Control Systems) – L3
This role requires a seasoned professional with a minimum of 8 years of experience across the relevant technology domains. Key competencies include subject-matter expertise and hands-on system administration experience with Microsoft Windows operating systems, VMware, Linux, and Nutanix technologies. Experience supporting operations technology (OT) or control system environments is highly preferred. Candidates should be adept at rapid issue resolution, risk mitigation, and dependency analysis. This position must also comply with all applicable utility-industry regulatory requirements, best practices, and operational guidelines to ensure the continuous availability of critical control system environments.
Administer and manage Windows (2008, 2012, 2016, 2019) and Linux (RHEL 7.x, 8.x, 9.x) servers
Support and manage server virtualization, provisioning, physical server maintenance, security compliance, and daily operations of control system environments
Maintain the full lifecycle of physical servers, including provisioning, maintenance, and decommissioning
Manage virtualized server environments through configuration, implementation, monitoring, and support
Maintain VMware VDI environments through configuration, implementation, and ongoing support
Ensure compliance with security baselines through configuration, remediation, and routine audit activities
Monitor server infrastructure health, system performance, and resource utilization; identify trends and anomalies
Maintain continuous compliance with information-security policies, NERC CIP standards, and other technical requirements, including reporting and remediation of non-compliance issues
Apply security patches and software updates on a regular schedule
Provide Tier-3 engineering support and business-continuity support for control system infrastructure
Collaborate with application, network, security, and functional teams supporting control system tools and applications
Participate in a rotating on-call support schedule for control system operations
Strong experience with Windows, Active Directory, VMware vSphere and vRealize Suite (vRA, vRO), Horizon View, Nutanix, and Linux in complex, heterogeneous environments
Solid understanding of virtualization technologies, including VMware and Hyper-V
Hands-on diagnostics and troubleshooting skills across listed technologies and product suites
Knowledge of high-availability architectures and disaster recovery environments
Experience optimizing VMware performance, managing virtual sessions, and allocating resources across physical and virtual systems
Expertise in Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, IIS, ADFS, Group Policies, FTP, and SFTP
Ability to implement AD infrastructure and perform recovery of AD Domain Controllers, DNS, WINS, and DHCP servers
Strong understanding of domain controller replication
Experience creating, testing, and deploying Group Policies
Proficiency with Microsoft clusters, load balancing, file and print server management, and Windows security
Advanced PowerShell scripting and task automation skills
Working knowledge of data center operations, including physical hardware placement, racking, and cabling
Experience supporting hardware and coordinating with OEM vendors for break-fix, maintenance, and large-scale upgrades/migrations
Ability to collaborate with multiple support teams and stakeholders to maintain smooth daily operations
Experience with RAID management and array controllers
Proficiency with backup products, protocol suites, and command-line utilities
Familiarity with OEM hardware (e.g., Dell, HP) and remote management tools
Strong understanding of system fault-tolerance design, business continuity, and disaster recovery planning
Prior experience in operations technology or control-system environments is preferred
