Optical Alignment Process Engineer
Location: Lewisville, TX

A fast-growing photonics manufacturing company in the North Dallas area is seeking an Optical Alignment Process Engineer to join its expanding team. This organization develops and produces high-speed optical transceivers for advanced applications in Data Center Interconnect (DCI), High-Performance Computing (HPC), and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Position Overview

As part of a multidisciplinary product development and manufacturing team, the Optical Alignment Process Engineer will drive process engineering solutions supporting product development, new product introduction (NPI), and production of a range of optical product families. This role focuses heavily on active optical alignment for opto/microelectronic components, modules, and sub-systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with product design and development teams to develop and implement process engineering solutions for new products.

  • Support research and development of new optical process technologies.

  • Manage multiple project timelines to ensure milestones are met.

  • Develop and optimize active alignment recipes on automated systems for free-space optics, gratings, fiber coupling, and related applications.

  • Troubleshoot and analyze process performance issues; provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members.

  • Create and maintain process assembly documentation.

  • Conceptualize tooling and fixtures to support new process development.

  • Qualify and validate new processes being introduced into production.

  • Research, select, and validate new equipment and technologies.

  • Support customer NPI builds under tight timelines and provide feedback to improve manufacturability, yield, and throughput.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.

  • 3+ years of experience in a Process or Manufacturing Engineering role.

  • Hands-on experience with active optical alignment of free-space optics; familiarity with ficonTEC systems is a strong plus.

  • Experience with automation and equipment programming.

  • Strong understanding of process control and electronics assembly methodologies.

  • Familiarity with engineering change processes.

  • Proficiency in organizing documentation, file structures, and naming conventions.

  • Experience with LabVIEW or other motion control software is preferred.

  • Manual dexterity for handling small components, dies, and assemblies under microscopes.

  • Experience with laser welding, DFM/FMEA, and lean manufacturing principles is advantageous.

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD or SolidWorks is a plus.

  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally for up to two months for training.

  • Proficiency in Mandarin is highly preferred.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
