Job Description
Job Title: Engineer – Evolved Packet Core
Overview:
This role is responsible for the solution design, testing, and delivery of private telecom cloud technologies. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of designing, developing, and implementing LTE core solutions for U.S.-based regional carriers, utilities, or private networks.
The position requires mastery of end-to-end solution design, including planning, requirements definition, high-level and low-level design, provisioning, subscriber and SIM management, and network management architecture. The engineer will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to develop strategies and processes that support evolving network and operational landscapes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and document High-Level Designs (HLDs) and Low-Level Designs (LLDs) for core network components, including completing detailed configuration questionnaires and creating network diagrams.
- Coordinate configuration changes across infrastructure teams to support network design and implementation.
- Collaborate with teams in cybersecurity, network engineering, and smart infrastructure to ensure alignment with enterprise architecture strategies and standards.
- Participate in Architecture Review Board (ARB) discussions to evaluate and approve projects, procedures, and policies.
- Conduct security vulnerability assessments and provide recommended mitigations or corrective actions.
- Support the vendor and product selection process for network initiatives.
- Develop Acceptance Test Plans (ATP), test specifications, and participate in end-to-end solution testing.
- Provide technical expertise in resolving complex network issues by identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions.
- Participate in the design and integration of third-party solutions for end-device, SIM, and profile management platforms.
- Partner with SIM vendors to engineer private and roaming SIM profiles.
- Collaborate with external partners to enable network sharing through mechanisms such as MOCN, MORAN, or home-routed roaming.
- Work with IP planning engineers to assign network parameters to core network nodes.
- Ensure all project-related activities are executed in compliance with regulatory, legal, and policy requirements.
- Maintain adherence to organizational standards, security policies, and best practices.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Subject matter expertise in 4G and 5G core network technologies, including LTE/EPC, 5G NSA, and 5G SA.
- Demonstrated experience with cloud computing platforms, virtualization, and software-defined networking.
- Proficiency in 3GPP interfaces and network protocols.
- Familiarity with subscriber provisioning solutions (e.g., CAI3G protocol).
- Proven experience implementing home-routed LTE roaming solutions.
- Knowledge of Mission-Critical Push-to-Talk (MC-PTT) is preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Computer Science required; Master’s degree preferred.
- 10+ years of relevant experience in 4G/5G core network engineering required (15+ years preferred).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively under tight deadlines and prioritize tasks.
