As a PHP Developer managing legacy systems, you will be pivotal in sustaining the functionality of legacy systems, resolving technical challenges, and working closely with various departments to ensure systems meet business needs and objectives. The successful candidate will have strong leadership and technical skills and be able to work in a fast-paced environment where problem-solving and collaboration are key.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead Legacy System Management: Oversee the ongoing maintenance, updates, and enhancements of proprietary apps, ensuring that these systems remain reliable, secure, and performant.
  • Team Leadership & Accountability: Manage and lead the team responsible for maintaining and supporting legacy systems. Hold team members accountable for timely and efficient issue resolution, system performance, and the successful delivery of system enhancements.
  • Ticketing System Oversight: Supervise the ticketing system for issues related to legacy systems. Ensure that all tickets are addressed promptly, and the team follows proper protocols for issue resolution, escalation, and documentation.
  • System Enhancements: Proactively identify opportunities for enhancing the functionality, performance, and scalability of both systems. Lead the planning, development, and implementation of improvements.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with cross-functional teams to understand system requirements, gather feedback, and translate that into actionable technical solutions. Communicate regularly with stakeholders to provide status updates, resolve issues, and ensure alignment on system needs.
  • Code Maintenance & Development: Write clean, efficient, and maintainable PHP code for system enhancements, bug fixes, and updates to the legacy systems. Ensure all changes are thoroughly tested and documented.
  • Technical Guidance & Support: Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior developers. Help the team navigate complex issues, suggest best practices, and ensure that all technical processes are followed.
  • Performance Monitoring & Optimization: Monitor system performance, identify bottlenecks, and optimize code to ensure systems run efficiently and are scalable to support business growth.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks related to system stability, security vulnerabilities, and technical debt. Lead efforts to update systems to modern standards while minimizing disruption.

Qualifications:

  • Experience:
    • At least 5 years of experience in PHP development, with a strong focus on maintaining and enhancing legacy systems.
    • Proven track record in leading and managing development teams, particularly in a technical leadership capacity.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in PHP (versions 7.x and 8.x), MySQL, and web technologies.
    • Familiarity with legacy systems and understanding of strategies for updating and optimizing them.
    • Experience with version control tools like Git and collaborative development practices.
    • Knowledge of front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) is a plus.
  • System Management & Leadership:
    • Experience managing a ticketing system and overseeing issue resolution.
    • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to mentor junior developers and hold the team accountable for performance and deliverables.
