Quality Engineer
Position Summary
We are seeking a Quality Engineer to support manufacturing operations by leading Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) activities. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining quality systems that ensure customer requirements are met while supporting continuous improvement throughout the manufacturing process.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead APQP activities for new and transferred products.
- Develop, manage, and maintain PPAP documentation and submissions.
- Interpret customer specifications, engineering drawings, and quality requirements.
- Develop and implement customer and internal process documentation, quality standards, and engineering change updates.
- Lead the development and maintenance of Process Failure Mode and Effects Analyses (PFMEAs).
- Partner with Quality Technicians to develop manufacturing decision-making documents and inspection methods.
- Coordinate sample submission activities, including:
- Gage R&R studies
- Dimensional layouts
- Process capability studies
- Material and laboratory testing
- Performance, fit, and functional testing
- Verify compliance of inspection plans, measurement results, capability studies, and PPAP documentation.
- Manage engineering drawings and ensure current revisions are maintained.
- Support customer product launches, tooling transfers, and validation activities.
- Manage annual customer product revalidation requirements.
- Review and verify supplier quality documentation as needed.
- Support customer visits, audits, and quality-related meetings.
- Maintain and administer corrective action processes using root cause analysis and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Assist in developing and maintaining quality reporting systems, including:
- Internal scrap reporting
- PPM (Parts Per Million) tracking
- Customer rejection reporting
- Trend analysis and top contributor reporting
- Support calibration activities for measurement equipment in partnership with the Quality Technician.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, process capability, and customer satisfaction.
Qualifications
- Associate's degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of two years of Quality Engineering experience in a manufacturing environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plans, and Process Flow Diagrams.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing quality systems and quality standards.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
- Experience with measurement systems analysis (MSA), Gage R&R, capability studies, and statistical process control (SPC).
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and standard computer applications.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across production, engineering, suppliers, and customers.
- Ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining attention to detail.
Preferred Skills
- Experience within an automotive or precision manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of IATF 16949, ISO 9001, or similar quality management systems.
- Familiarity with customer-specific quality requirements and engineering change management.
- Experience leading root cause investigations and implementing corrective actions.
