Job Description

They're seeking a Mechanic to add their team in the San Antonio, TX area!

Role Summary:

The Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, repairing, overhauling, and servicing fusion and related equipment. The role ensures fusion tools, machines, and accessories are ready for rental, in good working condition, safe, and available with minimal downtime.

Successful candidates must pass a background check, MVR check and drug screening as a requirement for these positions.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform maintenance, repair, and overhaul of fusion equipment, especially McElroy equipment (e.g. fusion machines for butt, saddle, socket, electrofusion) and other popular fusion brands.
  • Diagnose equipment failures, troubleshoot mechanical/electrical/hydraulic issues, and correct them to restore full operating functionality.
  • Service rental equipment: prepare equipment for rental, test functionality, ensure safety & calibration, inspect after returns.
  • Oversee warranty service work for equipment under warranty; work with manufacturers or vendors as needed.
  • Maintain and manage parts inventory: order replacement parts, keep records of parts used, ensure appropriate stock.
  • Keep detailed service and repair logs/documentation.
  • Maintain tools, shop equipment, test equipment in good condition, calibrate as needed.
  • For large repair or maintenance tasks, possibly lead or assist with shop overhauls (heavy repairs) or mobile repair / in-field service. 
  • Follow safety protocols, ensure that repaired equipment meets safety and quality standards.

Required Skills / Qualifications

  • Several years of experience in equipment repair/maintenance, particularly fusion equipment (McElroy preferred).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude: knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical systems inside machinery.
  • Familiarity with brands / types of fusion welders, their parts, and how they operate.
  • Ability to read and understand technical manuals, schematics, parts diagrams.
  • Good problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to use hand tools, shop tools, and possibly welders or grinding / cutting tools safely.
  • Attention to detail, strong documentation skills.
  • Dependability and ability to work with minimal supervision (especially for mobile repair / in-field).
  • Strong safety orientation.

Preferred / Additional Qualifications:

  • McElroy certification or equivalent (Master level).
  • Experience with testing and calibration of fusion equipment.
  • Experience with mobile repair or field service.
  • Able to work under time constraints (e.g. prepare equipment quickly for rentals).

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:

  • Work in shop environment: noise, use of heavy tools, possibly welding, grinding, cutting.
  • Work with heavy or bulky equipment: lifting, moving, rigging.
  • May require working outdoors or in field settings for mobile service.
  • Must follow safety gear, possibly work with hydraulics, electricity, etc.
