Embedded Software Development Engineer

Location: Onsite
Employment Type: Contract (Potential for Hire)

Are you passionate about developing software that directly impacts patient care? We're seeking an experienced Embedded Software Development Engineer to join a collaborative engineering team focused on developing innovative medical devices. In this role, you'll work alongside talented engineers throughout the full software development lifecycle, creating high-quality embedded software for regulated healthcare products.

What You'll Do

  • Develop embedded software in C/C++ for medical device applications.
  • Participate in the complete software development lifecycle using Agile methodologies and pair programming.
  • Design, develop, test, debug, and optimize embedded firmware.
  • Integrate software components and third-party libraries into existing systems.
  • Collaborate closely with hardware engineers to support firmware/hardware integration and troubleshooting.
  • Conduct code reviews and contribute to software quality and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Analyze system performance and resolve software bottlenecks.
  • Maintain software using Git/GitHub version control.
  • Produce documentation that complies with medical device quality standards.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams including Product Management, Quality Assurance, and Systems Engineering to deliver innovative solutions.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of embedded software development experience with a Bachelor's degree (or 3+ years with a Master's).
  • Strong experience developing embedded firmware using C/C++.
  • Experience developing software within the medical device industry or another highly regulated environment (FDA, aerospace, automotive, defense, etc.).
  • Experience working closely with hardware, including:
    • Circuit analysis
    • Microelectronics
    • Computer architecture
    • Firmware/hardware integration
  • Experience implementing, debugging, and tuning embedded algorithms.
  • Hands-on experience with integration testing and troubleshooting.
  • Experience using Git/GitHub for software configuration management.
  • Strong understanding of software quality documentation and development standards for regulated products.

  • Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS)

  • Device driver development
  • API development and integration
  • Code reviews and software quality practices
  • AI-assisted software development tools
