Job Title: Database Administrator (DBA)Location: Pittsburgh, PAJob Summary:We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Database Administrator (DBA) to join our team. The DBA will be responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of critical database systems, ensuring their availability and consistent performance. This role requires strong technical expertise, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work closely with development, operations, and support teams.Key Responsibilities:• Database Management: Install, configure, and maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring system health and performance to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security.• Performance Tuning and Optimization: Analyze and optimize database performance by tuning queries, indexing, and managing storage. Proactively address performance issues and implement best practices.• Backup and Recovery: Develop, implement, and manage backup and recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and availability. Perform regular backup tests and disaster recovery drills.• Security: Implement and maintain database security measures, including user roles, permissions, and encryption. Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.• Data Integration: Support data integration and migration initiatives, ensuring data consistency and reliability across systems.• Maintenance and Upgrades: Plan and execute database maintenance tasks, including patching, upgrades, and migrations with minimal downtime.• Automation: Develop and maintain scripts and tools to automate routine tasks and improve efficiency.• Monitoring and Troubleshooting: Monitor database systems for potential issues and resolve incidents promptly. Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.• Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation of database configurations, processes, and procedures.• Collaboration: Work closely with development, operations, and support teams to provide database support and ensure seamless integration with applications.Qualifications:Education and Experience:• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.• 3+ years of experience as a Database Administrator or in a related role.• Experience with database platforms such as Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or MongoDB.• Certification in database administration (e.g., Oracle DBA, Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate) is a plus.Technical Skills:• Proficiency in SQL and database management tools.• Strong knowledge of database design, implementation, and maintenance.• Experience with performance tuning, query optimization, and indexing.• Familiarity with backup and recovery processes and tools.• Understanding of database security best practices.• Experience with database monitoring and management tools.• Knowledge of scripting languages such as Python, PowerShell, or Bash.• Familiarity with cloud-based database services (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database, Google Cloud SQL) is a plus.Soft Skills:• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.• Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.• Detail-oriented with a focus on quality and continuous improvement.• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
