Construction Technologist (MOU15) – Level 1

Location: Surrey, BC (full-time in office with site visits; hybrid option after 6 months – 2 days WFH)
Contract: April 27, 2026 – April 24, 2027
Rates: Max $85.00/hr (INC) | $70.25/hr (T4)


Overview:
This role supports construction projects through estimating, scheduling, planning, and field coordination. The Construction Technologist works closely with project teams to ensure cost efficiency, schedule adherence, and technical accuracy across all phases of construction.


Responsibilities:

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates based on engineering specifications, contract conditions, labour, equipment, and materials
  • Perform quantity takeoffs and cost calculations; assess risks and incorporate into pricing
  • Develop and maintain project schedules; coordinate activities and track progress
  • Monitor project performance and advise on changes to scope, cost, or schedule
  • Support procurement by reviewing drawings/specifications, sourcing pricing, and preparing tender and bid documents
  • Compile and verify contractor submissions, including quantity and cost comparisons
  • Maintain records of production rates, material costs, and equipment data
  • Review cost and progress reports to assess variances and scheduling impacts
  • Provide technical guidance to field crews and support project teams
  • Assist with site surveys, basic drafting/design work, and technical reporting as required

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or degree in a construction-related field (Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, etc.) or relevant trade certification (e.g., Electrician, Power Line Technician, Millwright)
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in construction and/or project management
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license

Skills:
Strong knowledge of Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical disciplines (with working knowledge of another), along with familiarity with applicable codes and standards. Experience in generation, substation, and transmission & distribution environments is preferred. Proficiency in estimating, scheduling, costing, and project management tools is required, along with basic drafting capabilities.

The ideal candidate brings strong analytical skills, solid estimating and scheduling experience, and the ability to interpret cost and schedule data to recommend actions. Effective communication, teamwork, and stakeholder coordination skills are essential, along with the ability to support contract preparation, procurement activities, and technical reporting.
