The E4 Engineer is a senior professional engineer who applies sound engineering judgment to deliver safe, high-quality engineering, estimating, planning, and quality management services for medium-complexity projects and operations at BC Hydro. This role supports projects through design, commissioning, and operational phases while ensuring work is delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
Develop safe and reliable engineering solutions by performing design development, technical analysis, problem resolution, and interpretation of engineering standards and specifications for BC Hydro generation facilities.
Support project and operations management by:
Proposing changes to plans and cost estimates
Preparing progress and technical reports
Recommending contractor payments
Coordinating schedules and field activities
Resolve complex and unusual engineering challenges through independent technical studies, analysis, and professional judgment.
Recommend and validate engineering designs that support successful commissioning, operation, and project completion.
Contribute to BC Hydro’s engineering practice and technical standards, including mentoring and providing technical guidance to other engineering professionals.
Perform field coordination and problem-solving activities, working closely with construction, commissioning, and operations teams.
Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) with Engineers & Geoscientists BC (EGBC), or eligible for registration.
Minimum 8 years of relevant engineering experience
(Candidates with 6–8 years of experience may be considered with appropriate rates.)
Minimum 2 years of electrical commissioning experience
Strong computer proficiency and ability to use industry-standard design and analysis software
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with proven ability in field coordination and technical problem solving
Familiarity with CAD systems and drawing standards
Intermediate proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Intermediate English skills for a professional work environment
Protection and control commissioning experience
Experience with hydroelectric power generation facilities
