The Engineer E4 is a senior-level professional engineer or geoscientist who applies advanced engineering knowledge to deliver engineering, estimating, planning, and quality management services for medium-complexity projects and/or operations. This role supports BC Hydro projects and operations by ensuring work is completed safely, with high quality, within scope, and on schedule.
Apply engineering expertise to develop safe, compliant engineering solutions, including design development, technical analysis, problem resolution, and interpretation of engineering specifications for medium-complexity assignments.
Resolve highly technical and unusual design and field engineering challenges by conducting independent studies and detailed analysis, exercising sound engineering judgment, and recommending safe and effective engineering solutions.
Support project and operations management in achieving safety, cost, quality, and schedule objectives by:
Proposing changes to plans and cost estimates
Reviewing contractor work and recommending payments
Preparing progress and technical reports
Coordinating work schedules and related activities
Participate in BC Hydro’s engineering practice by contributing to the development and improvement of technical standards, methods, and designs.
Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and professional advice to other engineering staff to support capability development within BC Hydro.
Ensure all engineering work aligns with BC Hydro’s Professional Practice Management Plan and Quality Management Pillar.
Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in a relevant engineering or geoscience discipline, or equivalent experience.
Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) with Engineers & Geoscientists BC (EGBC), or registered in another jurisdiction and eligible for EGBC registration.
Valid EGBC Permit to Practice (sole practitioner or through an engineering firm) prior to assignment commencement.
Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
Ability and willingness to work in a hybrid environment and attend the Edmonds office as required.
Ability to travel to project sites across British Columbia.
Familiarity with CAD systems and engineering drawing standards.
Ability to use standard industry engineering design and analysis software.
Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Intermediate-level English communication skills (written and verbal) suitable for a professional engineering environment.
Willingness to use BC Hydro’s Digital Sign and Seal technology, including subscription to a Notarius digital seal service if required.
Work performed under BC Hydro’s Professional Practice Management Plan.
Engineering work sealed by the Registrant must include the Registrant’s own or their firm’s Permit to Practice number.
All project documentation produced during the assignment will be retained by BC Hydro in accordance with EGBC bylaws.
Previous experience using Autodesk Inventor.
Previous experience working within a utility environment.
