Position:  PI Historian System Specialist

Location: 100% Remote

Job Overview

Deployment & Infrastructure Configuration

  • Support site infrastructure setup across control centers. This includes:
  • Supporting middleware installation and configuration to enable data transfer to the historian.
  • Coordinating with local SPOCs to ensure communication pathways are established.
  • Overseeing Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) with technical SPOCs at sites that have completed implementation

Data Management & System Integration Assignments include:

  • Verifying historical data loads into the new Pl Historian.
  • Establishing and documenting baseline tag and asset hierarchies.
  • Supporting integration with upstream data sources and ensuring PROD Pl data connections are tested and signed off by LOBs

Governance & Documentation The specialist is responsible for:

  • Completing governance deliverables such as the Solution Design Description (SDD) and Project Management Plan (PMP).
  • Supporting workflow submissions and ensuring alignment with OPG governance standards

Training & Enablement

  • A key assignment is finalizing and delivering training plans for both admin and general end users. This includes:
  • Developing training content aligned with the new Pl system capabilities.
  • Supporting governance and user enablement through structured rollout plans

Roadmap Execution & Strategic Alignment

  • The Pl Historian specialist contributes to broader strategic initiatives, including:
  • Executing the Pl Roadmap phases: from foundational data cleanup to enterprise-wide integration and advanced analytics.
  • Supporting integration with other platforms.

Data Modeling and Visualization

  • Build and manage Asset Framework structures, templates, and dashboards for end-users

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Technical degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
  • 3-5 years of hands on experience with the Pl System (AF, Pl Vision, Pl Interfaces, Pl Integrators).
  • Experience working in an industrial environment (power generation, oil & gas, mining, manufacturing, or utilities) is an asset.

Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of OSls of UAVEVA Pl System architecture, including AF, Pl Vision, Pl Interfaces, and Pl Connectors. Proficiency in Pl System Administration, data modeling, and system optimization.
  • Ability to develop custom dashboards and analytics using Pl Vision and Pl AF.
  • Skilled in scripting and programming (PowerShell, Python, .NET/C#) for automation and integration. Experience with relational databases (e.g., SQL Server) and REST APls.
  • Understanding of SCADA/DCS environments and OPC protocols.

Soft Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem solving abilities, with an attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills - able to train staff and create user friendly guides. Self motivated, adaptable, and comfortable managing multiple priorities.
  • Collaborative mindset with a focus on working across engineering, operations, and IT teams.

Additional Assets

  • OSlsoft or AVEVA Pl System certification(s).
  • Experience in digital transformation, data analytics, or Operational Intelligence. Understanding of operational technology (OT) environments and cybersecurity best practices.
