Position Overview
M Force Partners is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to support the design and development of innovative mechanical products for automotive and powersports applications. This position will take products from initial concept through detailed design, prototyping, testing, manufacturing, and production release.
The ideal Mechanical Design Engineer has at least 3 years of mechanical product design experience with advanced SolidWorks and SolidWorks PDM skills. This individual will combine hands-on product development with strong knowledge of DFMA, GD&T, manufacturing processes, rapid prototyping, and engineering documentation.
The Mechanical Design Engineer will collaborate with electrical engineering, product management, manufacturing, quality, and global suppliers to develop products that meet performance, quality, manufacturability, cost, and customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Design mechanical components and assemblies using SolidWorks 3D CAD
- Develop product concepts through sketches, 3D CAD models, renderings, and technical presentations
- Create production-ready 3D models, detailed engineering drawings, and assembly documentation
- Develop and evaluate prototypes using 3D printing, CNC fabrication, laser cutting, bending, and other rapid prototyping methods
- Apply Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) principles throughout product development
- Design components utilizing manufacturing processes such as sheet metal fabrication, injection molding, thermoforming, and casting
- Collaborate with electrical and harness engineering teams to integrate electrical components into mechanical designs
- Perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to evaluate structural performance and support engineering decisions
- Participate in Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and formal product design reviews
- Support Design Verification Plans (DVP) and product testing activities
- Work with compliance teams to support applicable DOT, SAE, ECE, and IP requirements
- Create detailed part drawings incorporating GD&T, material specifications, surface finishes, and manufacturing requirements
- Develop assembly drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), installation documentation, and packaging specifications
- Work with domestic and international suppliers to obtain quotations, review samples, resolve technical issues, and support production
- Prepare engineering documentation and product information for ERP systems
- Develop technical illustrations, product data sheets, installation manuals, and product launch documentation
- Maintain organized CAD models, drawings, DFMEA documentation, design reviews, and technical records
- Support engineering change requests, product revisions, and non-conformance investigations
- Balance product performance, manufacturability, quality, cost, and customer requirements throughout the design process
- Participate in engineering process improvements and continuous improvement initiatives
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related engineering discipline
- Minimum of 3 years of professional mechanical product design experience
- Advanced proficiency with SolidWorks 3D CAD
- Experience using SolidWorks PDM
- Experience developing physical products from concept through production
- Experience applying Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) principles
- Experience designing components utilizing sheet metal, injection molding, thermoforming, castings, or similar manufacturing processes
- Experience creating detailed engineering and production drawings
- Strong working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Experience creating Bills of Materials and manufacturing documentation
- Understanding of prototype development, product testing, and manufacturing processes
- Strong mechanical aptitude and technical problem-solving skills
- Strong organizational and project management abilities
- Ability to manage multiple engineering projects and priorities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to collaborate with cross-functional engineering, manufacturing, and supplier teams
- Ability to work onsite in Exeter, RI
