Machinist IV
Location: Gaithersburg, MD (Onsite)
Job Type: 6-Month Contract-to-Hire
Pay Range: $40.00$44.00/hour
Position Overview
M Force Partners is seeking an experienced Machinist IV to support precision manufacturing operations in Gaithersburg, MD. This 6-month contract-to-hire opportunity is designed for a highly skilled machinist with extensive CNC and manual machining experience, CAD/CAM knowledge, and the ability to manufacture complex metal and plastic components to tight engineering specifications.
The ideal Machinist IV has at least 8 years of precision machining experience and is capable of developing CNC programs, machining methods, setup documentation, tooling strategies, and fixturing solutions. Strong experience with Mastercam is highly preferred, along with advanced knowledge of GD&T, blueprint reading, dimensional inspection, and machining process improvement.
The Machinist IV will also serve as a technical resource within the machine shop, supporting troubleshooting, equipment maintenance, process development, and the training and mentoring of other machinists.
Key Responsibilities
- Manufacture complex precision metal and plastic components using CNC and manual machining equipment
- Develop CNC programs, machining methods, setup sheets, fixturing, and manufacturing processes
- Determine appropriate tooling, cutting speeds, feed rates, and machining parameters
- Use CAD/CAM software to support CNC programming and machining operations
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T requirements, and manufacturing specifications
- Develop quick-change fixturing and tooling solutions to reduce setup times and improve productivity
- Set up and operate CNC mills, CNC lathes, manual machining equipment, and other machine shop equipment
- Inspect completed components using precision measurement and inspection equipment
- Perform incoming, in-process, and final inspections as required
- Use calipers, micrometers, indicators, and other dimensional inspection tools
- Support CMM and CNC vision inspection activities when applicable
- Fabricate, modify, repair, and assemble components using machine shop equipment and hand tools
- Perform threading, deburring, polishing, lapping, and other finishing operations
- Develop and maintain machining procedures, setup documentation, work instructions, and related manufacturing records
- Develop and support preventive maintenance procedures for machine shop equipment
- Troubleshoot machining, tooling, equipment, and process issues
- Coordinate equipment maintenance, repairs, and upgrades with internal teams and outside vendors
- Train and mentor machinists on equipment operation, machining techniques, setups, and shop best practices
- Maintain appropriate tooling, material, equipment, and shop inventory
- Identify and recommend process improvements that increase machining capability, efficiency, quality, and capacity
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to resolve production and technical issues
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe machine shop environment
- Follow applicable quality, safety, and manufacturing procedures
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum of 8 years of machining experience in a precision manufacturing environment
- Completion of an accredited machining or trade school program may substitute for up to two years of required experience
- Strong hands-on experience with CNC machining equipment
- Experience operating manual machining equipment
- Experience developing or modifying CNC programs
- Experience developing machining setups, tooling strategies, and manufacturing processes
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and manufacturing specifications
- Strong knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Experience using CAD/CAM software
- Proficiency with precision measuring and inspection equipment
- Ability to manufacture components to tight dimensional tolerances
- Strong mechanical and machining troubleshooting capabilities
- Ability to develop and maintain machining documentation and work instructions
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams
- Ability to work onsite in Gaithersburg, MD
Preferred Qualifications
- Mastercam programming experience
- Experience programming CNC mills and/or lathes
- CMM experience
- CNC Vision System experience
- Experience machining both metal and plastic components
- Experience with ISO manufacturing standards
- Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) experience
- Experience training or mentoring other machinists
- Experience developing machining fixtures and tooling
- Preventive maintenance experience with CNC and machine shop equipment
- Continuous improvement and machining process optimization experience
