Principal in Charge / Subject Matter Expert (Architect)
  • Location:
  • Charlotte, NC Multi State Architectural firm searching for a Principal In Charge/SME in one of the following Areas:
  • Municipalities
  • General Commercial Construction
  • Industrial/Institutional
  • Hotel/Multi-Family
  • Mixed-Use

Principal in Charge Responsibilities

  • - Build the Charlotte, NC brand as a leader and be heavily involved in community engagement.
  • - Lead and execute strategic business development initiatives to drive growth across the region.
  • - Mentor, guide, and assist in closing other business development efforts across the organization.
  • - Provide high-level oversight and leadership across multiple architectural projects and offices.
  • - Ensure alignment of business objectives with project goals and client expectations.
  • - Represent the firm in major pursuits and client engagements.

Subject Matter Expert Responsibilities

  • - Provide expert-level architectural guidance and technical leadership.
  • - Support design excellence and ensure adherence to industry and firm-wide standards.
  • - Serve as a key resource for innovative design and technical problem solving.
  • - Mentor junior architects and provide subject-specific training across offices.
  • - Collaborate with other discipline leads to ensure interdisciplinary coordination.

Required Qualifications

  • - Licensed Architect with active registration.
  • - Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture from an accredited program.
  • - Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in architecture with demonstrated leadership in multi-location firms.
  • - Strong business acumen and proven experience leading strategic business development initiatives.
  • - Excellent portfolio of completed projects, with an emphasis on design excellence and technical proficiency.
  • - Experience mentoring teams and guiding project delivery from concept through construction.
  • - Familiarity with Revit, AutoCAD, and other industry-standard design software.
  • - Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to lead client engagements and internal teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • - Experience working across multiple offices or regions.
  • - Recognition in the architectural community through awards, speaking engagements, or publications.
  • - Active involvement in professional organizations such as AIA.
  • - Previous experience helping to grow or establish a new market location.
